My Kitchenaid mdl: KSM 155gbca is making a loud bumping noise with or without an attachment.

When we lock the mixer and then turn it on it makes a loud clicking noise. We thought it was the mixing attachment hitting the bottom or the bowl but it makes the same noise with or without the mixing blade attached. can you help me with this problem?

It is more than likely in the planetary or the fuse gear inside the gear box. Try it once you have the planetary off before you go looking inside the gear box. Easiest is planetary problem but far far more likely is the fuse gear.

SOURCE: Kitchenaid mixer makes a clanging noise

Hi. If your mixer is under warranty, call Kitchenaid. They are very good at replacing mixers under warranty.

If you are out of warranty, this is where the fun begins, NOT!

Remove the silver band from around the top of mixer. Remove 4 screws that secure the top cover, remove cover and at the front top of the machine locate the transmission cover. Inspect this cover carefully for cracks. If you find cracks in it...You have just discovered Kitchenaid's dirty little secret. A cheap plastic transmission housing! The failure of this cheap part is the cause of all of the rest of the damage inside the mixer, which may include a destroyed worm gear and shaft, destroyed bearings and their seats. You're not alone. I estimate that thousands of these plastic parts have failed causing great damage to the rest of the mixer

Kitchenaid's replacement housing is made out of metal. If you feel up to the task of repairing the mixer yourself goto the Kitchenaid website and do a search for the parts catalog for your mixer model, these will assist you with disassembly, reassembly and parts ordering.

If you're not up to the task, take it to an authorized repair place once you have put the cover back on.
Even if you're out of warranty, you may be able to have Kitchenaid pay for the replacement parts, they did for my mixer. Be persistent with them and try to get to a manager with your complaint. This cheap piece of plastic has no business being installed on a high-priced machine.

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. ricardok45

SOURCE: kitchenaid mixer makes a lot of noise. The beater

Hi - I've been searching for general info on KitchenAid stand mixers and ran across this so I'm throwing my $.02 in... Since KA stand mixer bases are essentially made of cast metal parts, there is a very slim chance that there is a lateral misalignment (side-side) unless it got dropped...eek! Sounds like a head height adjustment issue. Check out this from KitchenAid Conversations:

Good luck.

SMEG Stand Mixer makes loud clanging noise only when there is an attachment on.

The machine needs stripping down as something it likely worn. The gearbox is also packed with grease and may need re-packing. They do need periodic servicing. Does it make the same noise with the bowl removed? Sometimes the noise will be attachments hitting the bowl. There is an adjustment screw underneath to see clearance.

Kitchenaid mixer blade holder will not turn

I answered this for you in the blender dept, it will almost certainly be the fuse gear and that's machine cases apart to look in the gearbox.
Fuse gear part number is
4162897 Worm Gear
If you want to make the repair a little faster then the fuse gear already mounted in the bracket is another option
240309?2 Worm Gear Bracket And Gear
I call it a fuse gear, they call it a worm gear.

How to use food grinder attachment

The mixer's planetary is not disconnected when the meat grinder is attached and continues to turn.

If the noise you hear only occurs when the grinder is in place, then the grinder may be assumed to be the cause. Consult the meat grinder's instructions and make sure that nothing is loose or overtightened.

My KitchenAid mixer will not turn it makes a loud noise.

thebsjunk - I don't know if you've canned the old mixer. If you've bought a new KA, congratulations to Kitchenaid. If you haven't, there's still a possiblilty that you might be able to fix it yourself. (For the price of KA mixers you'd think they's last a 'lifetime', but alas, KA quality is sorely lacking from their current products...but I editorialize.)
It's quite possilbe that you've had a gear tooth break in the transmission, which would lock up and prevent the planetary gear (agitator) from rotating in mixing bowl. This is what happend to my wife's 6 Quart Pro KA mixer. Since it was out of warranty, I decided to troubleshoot myself. First I downloaded the Parts List manual from the KA website so I knew what to expect. Then I easily disassemble the mixer to find that a bevel gear tooth had broken. After ordering the correct parts, and reassembling, it works better than when we first upacked it. The loud whining is absent...
If the motors gone bad, you can still replace that, too. Fixing your mixer yourself is much easier than shipping it off to a repair center, and you have the gratification of doing it yourself.
I hope this helps! Howard, Burke, VA

Theres a loud squeaking noise when the mixer turned on

Hi. These mixers normaly make a lot of noise when in operation. Go to the shop that sold it to you, or any place that has these units on display and ask them to turn on the mixer for a demonstration. If their mixer does not make the same noise, then contact Kitchenaid Customer Service and ask for a replacement under warranty. If this solution assists you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45

Grinding Noise

If it's metallic sound you are loosing teeth on a gear or two.  This is caused by lack of lubricant or simply fatigue of the material of the gears.  Don't use it, you can get metal flakes in your food.

Take it in to a repair shop and have it fixed.  The money spent is well worth it because if done correctly will last another 12 years.
