There are several possible causes of this problem, aside from a loose or damaged wire, which is uncommon. The cause in about 95% of the cases is a thermopile that has gone bad. The thermopile is the small cylinder that is attached to the pilot assembly where part of the pilot flame can contact it. It has a cable or wire going to the gas valve, high limit switch, or both. When hot enough, it produces and electrical current that keep the pilot on and allows the main gas valve to open. Be sure that you have a good pilot flame. The pilot may need to be cleaned or adjusted. The thermopile is not hard to replace in most gas fryers and not too expensive. This often starts as an intermittent problem. The second possible cause is a defective high limit. The high limit is a small rectangular device with wires going to the gas valve and a tiny stainless tube that goes through the bottom of the kettle to a sensor bulb, like the thermostat has. These are usually self resetting, but may have a small red reset button. If present check the reset. If no reset, jump the two wires and see if the fryer will now light. If so, the high limit is defective, assuming the fryer is not over temperature. If defective, replace. Do not operate the fryer in this condition as there is no over temperature protection. The next cause is if the oil is too hot, in which case the high limit will shut off both the main burner and the pilot. The pilot cannot be relit until the fryer cools down and the high limit resets. If the oil is too hot, usually over 425F, replace the thermostat. If the high limit trips when the oil is in the normal operating range, replace the high limit. The final cause is a bad gas valve. This is not too common, but the gas valve is expensive and a bit difficult to replace. Check all of the other causes first.

The pilot light will only stay lit when you hold the pilot reset button in, as soon as you let the button out the pilot light goes out and the actual burners never come on. Any ideas?

Gas line is clogged if your pilot lite goes out - They got rid of pilot stoves because the pilot was always lit and using gas.

And without a lit pilot no way you can get the burner to ignite unless you use a match, assuming you have gas going to the burner!

My Ruud achhiever 90 starts to fire but as soon as the blower fires the burner goew out. I also noticed that the "igniter" on the end isnt firing. Could that cause the burner to not stay lit when the

There is an ignitor and a flame sensor. If the ignitor does not ignite the gas after a time, it goes out. If the flame sensor does not detect ignition the gas valve closes. When you start it you should see the ignitor come on like a light bulb and glow, then the gas valve opens and you get ignition. Then the flame detector turns on when the ignitor goes out. Flame detectors are like a chrome wire that has one connection to it and it sits part of the way in a burner. They get dirty and corroded. When that happens it shuts down. You can clean the flame detector with steel wool of scotch brite pads. Dont get too carried away doing that though.

Janitrol GUPS075-3 Furnace burners will not stay lit

The first thing I would do is make sure the flame sensor is clean, this is a metal rod immersed in the burner flame on the opposite side of the igniter. If too much oxidation builds up on it, it will not allow the burner to stay lit. To clean, just turn off furnace and remove flame sensor and clean with steel wool and then reinstall. If this does not solve the problem there may be a problem with the gas valve.

Raypak 403A, burners will not stay lit for more than a few minutes.

i'm thinking after the main valve opens the pressure could be dropping in the pilot tube. this could be due to a dirty, plugged and sometimes spider web inside the pilot tube. rare but does happen, nice warm home for a spider. good luck. if not let me know. could also be weak pilot coil.

5 burner gas Vicking stove top keeps clicking after is on

Hello,

Their are 2 possible reasons the igniters would continue to click after the burner is lit.

1) the burner is slightly dirty and the part of it very near the electrode is not burning correctly so the igniter doesn't think the burner is lit so it will not tell the spark to turn off. It could be cleaned by using steel wool and cleaning the burner holes near where the electrode is and then use a paper clip and poke through the holes on the burner to clear them so they burn correctly.

2) the electrode (the spark plug at the burner) is cracked so even though the burner is lit so the electrode can not sense that the burner is lit and wont tell the spark to turn off,so if having cleaned burner it still clicks after burner is lit the electrodes would need to be replaced.

I have a Model CGN250TE.The pilot light stays lit but when you turn control valve on it stays lit for 5 seconds and then shuts right down, even the pilot light goes out.I have tried venting the room and...

I would first check the gas pressure to your furnace. Then make sure that burners are clean and watch flames when burner first ignites. I have seen burners that were dirty cause delayed ignition that would create a suction when they came on and extingush pilot and burners.
The next thing I would do is change gas valve. Thank you

Spark module clicks and gas will not stay lit, flame comes on but goes out

hi Clogged burners are a very common problem with gas ranges because foods spilled on the burners block the gas ports and prevent ignition. On some gas ranges you can remove the top ring of the burner to expose the ports. Here's how to clean a burner:
Step 1: Turn off the power supply, both gas and electric, to the range. Then remove the burner.
Step 2: Soak the burner in a solution of mild household detergent and water. Clean it with a soft cloth.
Step 3: Clear the gas ports with a pin or needle, rinse the burner, and let it dry. Caution: Do not use a toothpick or matchstick to clean the gas ports. If the tip of the wood gets stuck in the burner ports, it could cause a serious blockage.
Step 4: When the burner is completely dry, replace it, and turn on the power and the gas supply.

Nexgrill patio heater won't stay lit

I called Nexgrill technical support at 1-800-913-8999. They are sending me a new thermo couple to keep the valve open when ignited - so the patio heater will stay on. I needed to give them the serial number (inside the propane tank door) and fax them a copy of the receipt.

Hope this helps.
