Asus p5 vdc-x motherboard not recognizing ddr2

Im currently using ddr ram, a 512mb stick and a 256mb stick and ive just got 2x 512mb geil 1.8v ddr2-800 pc2-6400 sticks but when i put them in and start my pc nothing happens, it fails to boot. Im not using the old sticks at the same time as the ddr2 ones and ive put them in the yellow slots, any idea why its failing to recognise the new memory? Thanks for your time

By all accounts it supports ddr2, ive tried using one stick and alternating slots but it still does not work. Is it possible the ddr2 slots are busted? Only option open to me now is to get a new motherboard

Ok i am just guessing here

maybe your motherboard does not support

ddr2 rams and hence it wont boot up as it does not detect any ram in the slots......

try to boot with one old and one new ram (ddr and ddr2) and post the result

are you sure whether the ddr2 ram is supported?

My EPoX 4PDA5 has 2 512mb ddr ram's, I was wondering if i could replace them with 1gb ddr2 or ddr3 without changing the motherboard, or would i be able to get 2 1gb DDR's and still use the 512's? because...

From http://www.motherboard.cz/mb/epox/EP-4PDA5.htm:

4 DDR modules for DDR 333/400 dual channel architecture

If you have 4 ram slots and only 2 are filled, you just need to match the speed of the two you currently have, they can be any size(500mb, 1gb, etc). I'm not sure you'll be able to find DDR ram anymore though.. and NO you cannot use DDR2 ram.

Ram assurance

The schematic layout of the P5VDC-MX on the user manual shows that there are 4 DIMM banks, set as 2 X 2 rows, 2 DDR2 and 2 DDR.

The user manual explicity states:

I am running different frequency modules without any problems. With the info above provided by ASUS, it may be possible that a fix could be available with a BIOS update. Otherwise, you can opt to use a lower capacity RAM along with your 1GB Corsair.

Hope this helps.

My Dell C600 won't recognize the 2 new 256 mb sticks of RAM

i think you need a same brand of 256 for it to work? and when you buy something for your computer make sure that the one you both is the same brand or code with your 128 for example you have 128 ddr2 sdram so you can only upgrade it with 256 ddr sdran or 512mb,1gb,2gb ddr sdram.

Need to know what type of RAM my MD 1921 has so I can upgrade.

Hi KF27,

Your system has and supports PC SODIMM DDR RAM with a MAX support of 1GB. You currently have 512MB of RAM (2x 256MB), so your only option is 2x 512MB of RAM..

I hope this helps you out!

Ram memory upgrade not recognized in system info.

does your mother board ddr2 compatible? do you have the manual of your motherboard? because there are brands listed in your manual which are compatible. if you have an existing ddr installed temporarily uninstall this and try this ddr2 512mb alone and let it run, if a beep beep sound occurs that means this is not compatible with your computer. remove this and bring this together with your ddr that work to your supplier, ideally the cast latency timer of these should be the same including the brand. hoping that this will help you
