Formatting a new memory card - Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera

Have you formatted the memory card? When you buy a new memory card, you must go in your camera's menu and find the "format memory" selection and perform the format function. Once formatted by your camera, it should work.

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out (of which your camera was made before SDHC. You can only use 2GB or less cards). Other causes include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Right Click on the Memory card and check for properties and see, if it is showing 1.85 gb then you need not format or try to format in FAT32 if you are using NTFS.

take you card and insert it into your pc. format the card there into the desired form the camera wants. then you can use your card.

Hi, The solution is to format the memory card or initialize the memory card. Note formatting the memory card will delete all the pictures or data stored. Formatting memory card
1. Press the MENU button in any mode.
2. Move the 5-way scroll button to the right and press the confirm button to enter the SETUP menu.
3. Move the 5-way scroll button down and enter the FORMAT menu. Press the confirm button and the "Format?" dialog box appears. Select "Yes" to start formatting. Select "No" to cancel.

Just goto Menu -> tools -> memory
1. select Memory Icon.
2. Press Options
3. Select Format Memory card
4. Thats all.. your memory card will be formatted and ready to use.

You need to format a new card in the camera.

If you have a card reader try to format it via your pc that may help to recover your card. Else you have to purchase new one. Best of luck.

If this memory card will be connected to a camera you can simply put the memory card to the camera and there you can format it using the camera's menu, you can also format this memory card using a card reader that will be connected to your computer, just put the memory to a card reader then connect it to the computer that way you can also format the memory card....
