The Display button toggles the information shown on the LCD (or turns it off entirely). Make sure you haven't inadvertently pressed it and turned off the display. It works as follows:

  • Press once for Normal view in LCD viewfinder
  • Press twice to turn on Rule of Thirds grid lines
  • Press three times to turn off LCD display
  • Press and hold 1 sec. to decrease/increase LCD brightness

SOURCE: When i turn on my

Hi judithsunsun,
On the back of the camera, on the lower right, below the round Control Dial, there are two buttons, DISP and MENU.
Turn the camera on, then press the DISP button. Press it once and the camera should display an image of the picture you will be taking. Press it again, and the camera will add some additional information to the image. Press it a third time, and the camera will turn off the display.
I suspect your camera has turned off the display. Try pressing the DISP button a few times, and see if that doesn't fix your problem.

Why my canon G12 present black display or horizontal lines overexposed?

It's common on the G12. This is the place fixing these: www.CamerasAndParts.com They have a specific service package for this $89, parts and labor come included, plus they do the internal fix so it doesn't keep occurring on the camera. They are the best place for help with the Canon Powershots. Best of luck with it.

My canon powershot g12 lcd works fine but the photos are all 'whited' out

You may have the exposure compensation settings overexposing you images. Since it compensates without affecting the image prior to shooting, you won't see it until after the image is taken. Check that and the flash exposure compensation too.

If it's not deleting all your photos you may have a setting in your menu features that allow you to overwrite earlier photos if your card gets full.

This is a common problem on the Canon G12. It has something to do with the CCD Sensor yet Canon doesn't acknowledge it to be a problem. To get this fixed, I would suggest: www.camerasandparts.com All they specialize in is the Canons. It's $89 through them to fix that common problem, plus they service the camera and do the internal correction to prevent this from reoccurring again on the camera. They tend to be the best bet for the Canon's, definitely for this issue, they'd be the place. Good luck

All menus and funcions works, andI can see theme, but the display is black and also the photos

There is a common problem on the G12's where they lose some sort of a connection and the image from the lens is no longer there. It's a common problem. If you're under warranty, Canon should repair it for free. If you need to pay, use this site: www.camerasandparts.com They exclusively service the Canon's only and the nice thing with them is they do a correction in the camera so the problem doesn't continue to happen. With them, it's $89 for everything, parts and labor, servicing the camera and the shipping back. There tough to beat, a great alternative if you don't have warranty on the camera anymore.

When I want to download pictures from my Canon G12 camera to computer it gives "communication error" on the camera's display

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as iPhoto and Windows Photo Gallery.

The G12's have a common problem for this. If you just recently bought it, take it back to the store. If you can't do that, send it to Canon under warranty since you just got it (assuming you didn't drop it or do something to cause it). If Canon won't cover it, go to this site: www.camerasandparts.com They just service the Canons exclusively and they will do a correction to the G12 so this problem doesn't keep happening. They do the repair with parts included, service the camera, do the correction in the camera and cover shipping back. With them, it's only $89 which is nice. If you're under warranty and it's going to be free, send it to Canon instead. If you're going to have to pay, use the site I gave you. They do excellent work on these plus you'll get that correction done with the repair. Best of luck with the problem.
