No, the battery will not run down due to this problem. When you shut off your truck and pull out the key, the power to the motor will be cut off and should stop blowing. Depending how your vehicle is set up, the blower will stop as soon as you shut off the ignition key, or when the door is opened like it does on my 2005 Chevy Uplander van. If your battery is running low, you either have a worn out battery or some extra accessory is loading it down.
The resistor pack which limits the current to your blower motor when your switch is set on the lower settings is most likely bad. These are usually located close to the blower motor. On my 2002 S10, it is located in the engine compartment on the passenger side, attched to the blower motor air duct. the dealer or local auto parts store will have this part. Unfortunatly, I have not changed one on your specific vehicle, so can't give you more detail than I already have.
The air conditioner blower motor works on directly on the battery supply where as the compressor works on the engine power so if you shout down the engine the compressor will stop but the blower will stop only you take out the key properly,
you have a short to power which will cause it to stay on constantly check your blower motor resistor pack to ensure that it is working and check the wires going to the blower to make sure you have a power and a ground
Your blower resistor is bad. It is mounted under the passenger side dash behind and to the left of the blower motor. These things burn out short out causing the fan to run constantly and then they just fry and shut down the fan. It is a hard little ****** to get to and you need 1/4 inch ratchet, 6 inch extension a 1/4 inch universal joint and a 5 mm shallow socket and lots of patients. LOL
