Why is my Pentax Optio WG2 giving a power on light, but no other function.(no screen or modes viewable) the battery is charged. Any advice?
There is nothing visibly functioning on the camera except the green power button, the camera will then automatically shut itself off. I am unable to do so manually.

I am sorry you having that problem, and even more sorry I do not have a solution...On my Pentax Optio M10 batteries rechargeable or fresh alkaline only seem to last about 5-6 pictures before the camera deems them flat without charge and shuts off...it is so annoying I assume yours is possibly doing the same. I suspect this to be a camera problem, I also notice the camera dos not recognize all rechargeable batteries some of them do not even get acknowledge. If anyone gets a solution help us both....
HI there check the battery first. Red light blinking in working mode when the battery not having enough power for flashing. So i suggest you charged the battery fully or if its old then replaced it. Thnaks.
the batteries needed for the cameras are quite high powered
though the batteries show that they are fuly charged most times they have lost their actual capacity of power storage in them so not being able to supply enough to start the camera best way to test this is to start the camera on preview mode if this works then you will need to buy a new set of rechargable batteries, i would suggest to take batteries in the range of 2000MAh to 2500MAh and
the normal batteries will not be able to sustain long even for normal lens open and retract functions, instead of normal batteries try LR6 varieties (eg: Duracell, Energizer, etc)
took me a while to figure out your website, it should be more instructive on how to find answers to similar questions. I followed the advice of Jackboy who suggested taking an eraser to the battery leads, That worked. Thanks
My optio t10 did basically the same thing...turned on, lens goes out, then automatically shut off. I took the advice of a solution listed here for another problem...hit the camera. For whatever reason it worked.
