How do I use the remote to cont bass & treble for rxv-657 reeiver

Not possible to adjust the tone without the remote.
if you have the possibility for a universal remote like "Logitech" remotes its Recommended for such cases, that will be easier for you to control the the AVR system.

If you have over driven the amp by playing it real loud with the bass control turned up, it is very possible that you have toasted the output stages of amp.
Every time you boost a tone control by 3 db you have doubled the output power at that frequency. So if you are "coasting" along at a nominal 75 watts, the moment you boost the bass by 3 db the amp has to put out 150 watts at that low frequency.. Go to +6db and now the poor amp has to kick out 300 watts! And so on.

Rule of thumb - you never use your tone controls at very loud levels. Tone controls are there to compensate for the poor frequency response of the human ear at low volume levels - the Fletcher Munsen effect. At low volumes our hearing with the lows and high frequencies so when you play something at low volume you boost up the bass and treble to compensate for poor hearing. At loud volumes our ears respond properly.

Tone control circuitry is not working. Also check to see if there is a switch on the receiver that renders those controls useless.

There could be several reasons why your Fender 25R amps are not producing the tone you expect. Here are a few things to check:

The frequency of mid range control is about 1KHz. The bass and treble are usually enough to set the tone of sounds and music, and if the customer has high quality speakers connected to the amplifier it is almost unnecessary to modify any tone. In my opinion you are right that x-band equalizer became less important now.

Adjust this using the EQ on the amp and to a lesser extent the tone controls on the guitar.

Often people boost the bass way up causing this problem.

I am not sure but I think there are two switches on the amp, with three positions, which you flick up or down a notch for louder or lower bass and treble. They should be quite clearly labeled.

If the system doesn't have controls labeled "bass" and "treble" - or if there are no clever presets like "Hall", "Theater", etc., then you'll have to adjust these parameters before the signal reaches the speakers. One way is to purchase a graphic equalizer to hook between the speakers and the signal source. A graphic equalizer a basically a tone control, with the spectrum divided into 10 or more "slices" instead of 2 (bass and treble). Consider the sliders on the left as "bass", and the ones on the right as "treble". If you're using these speakers for a computer, some sound card software has these controls buried beneath a few menus - but sometimes not. The easiest solution is to buy an equalizer and hook it between the signal source and speakers. Bose is typically "audiophile" equipment, and many audiophiles don't want tone controls (thus the extra electronic processing required) to contaminate the signal. Obviously, most systems do need to offer some control to the user, as you've discovered!

An equaliser is, put simply, a more complex tone control, giving you the ability to cut or boost more specific frequencies than a tone knob, or bass & treble controls.

It comes in handy for tweaking the sound from your hi-fi to just the way you like it. But beware, as it can make your hi-fi produce sounds that are so bass or treble heavy, that you can damage your speakers if you're not careful.

Adding another compnent into the chain (like a graphic EQ) can add a little background noise but this Technics EQ is a pretty quiet one & you probably won't notice the noise apart from when there's no music playing & you've got the amp turned up high.
