How do I change my MMV4205BAS to vent (recirculate) out of the front vent instead of the top vent.

We just bought a microwave (MMV4205BAS) from a resale non-profit. We bought the parts to mount but we need to fix the venting before we can mount as the air has nowhere to go. Do I need to buy a part to seal close the top vent or is there an easier option?

Paul, if you look on top of the microwave before you install it you will see where the fan is located at the back edge. There should be 2-4 screws that hold it in place. Remove the screws and pull the fan up and out of the microwave and rotate the unit 90 degrees towards the front of the microwave and put it back in and replace the screws. That should be all that you have to do to get it to vent out the front.

The installation manual should help you deal with these issues. If you don't have yours, you can download it here:

As a bonus, you can also get your owner's manual here;

One important thing is to make sure you have a good vent door on the outside of the home. If that's not working right, it allows mor cold air in. Also, the pipe should be insulated.

SOURCE: Maytag microwave just died.

Take it back to the store and make them do something about them. If they dont then file a complaint with the BBB no reason for you to have to deal with this when it is there problem. It sounds like there is a venting issue and more going on

The microwave doesn't seem to be bringing the air up into the vent for exhaustion outside. It's brand new.

I presume that you can hear the fan running? If so, most over the cook top microwaves have an option to vent to the outside or simply recycle through the filter and vents above the unit. If you check your manual there should be instructions on how to change this configuration to suit your situation, but it likely needs to be done before you install the microwave.

The above manual shows how to reconfigure the microwave from recirculation (as shipped) to external exhaust setup on pages 4 - 5.

Can i vent my jvm-1440 microwave/fan ?

yes, you can recirculate it out the front which i suppose u do currrently... you may also vent it out the top, or the rear. to do this u must drop the unit down, and rotate the fan motor to point the appropriate direction, and also install or have a exterior venting piping existing currently..

Have whirlpool gold accuwave micro hood combo model# GH51884XPS5

The inspector is correct, air should be coming through the top louvers, although you sometimes will have a little air coming from the sides and back. Drop the microwave and see which way the blower is rotated, towards the louvers or towards the back or top. Some units also have a panel that blocks the venting from going the wrong way. I dont have a vent for above range microwave oven

It doesn't have to vent outside. These are designed to recirculate the filtered air back into the room. If you cook without a range hood now it will work fine for you.

Outside venting GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800

Your vent flap could be taped or it could be faulty installation not allowing the vent to open. If you take the front vent cover off, you should be able to reach in above the fan unit and gently push the vent flap up, it should move freely with no binding. If it doesn't it is taped or blocked. If it is taped, gently putting upward pressure on the flap might release the tape. If that doesn't work the vent installation is blocking the flap. You might have to remove the unit from the wall (two people to do this) or disassemble the vent duct above the microwave and rework the interface for clearance.

hope this helps,

Front vent on JMV8208A Jenn-Air Over-the-range microwave hood keeps opening

There may be an option to turn that off with the keypad, but your best bet would be to contact Jenn-Air.

The manual will have their contact info or you can see: http://www.jennair.com/content.jsp?name=contact_us
