Have sony model KdL 40S2000, now has colored thin lines going up and down on the left side. Anyone know the cause.

the lcd controller is a seperate part that can be replaced you don't have to replace the whole panel if the controller is bad

If the line is present in all inputs and modes, there is a problem with the LCD Panel. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole LCD Panel which is very expensive (usually around $1000+ for 40" Sony). Unless the TV in under warranty, it is usually around the same price for a new TV.

LOD (lines of death) are a known service issue with the Sony bravia line of TV's contact Sony and cross your fingers. Wish I had better news for you. I had a 52w4100 and Sony arranged me with a service center to get it taken care of.

Ok after over a year i figured out it was the tcon board. Good luck getting finding one. The first one i ordered from shopjimmy was faulty, didn't realize until after the warranty so i ate the cost of it (honestly i thought that it was good and there was another thing wrong with the tv) so i said wtf and bought one last week from ebay. Bam! it works great!!!
