I was trying to clean my PC of dust, accidentaly i plugged off the power led, the speaker, power sw and reset sw connectors, and i don't know if i plugged them right back because since then the CPU is overheating fast, it goes to 90 degrees C in about 1 minute and then the pc shuts down... i did replace the thermal grease on the processor, but it's still the same... could the problem be because of the connectors?
Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs
into the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the
jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to
take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the
motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.
Overheating??
When the computer is overheating it will not boot
back up until you let it sit a while to cool off. If your systems shuts
down and does not boot right back up, then it might be overheating.
Three causes of overheating:
1) Dust - Dust inside the laptop, dust clogging the
fans and vents. Dust around the cpu and heat sink. Solution - Take a
can of compressed air and blow out the dust. It's best to take the
laptop apart to blow it out.
2). A Fan not working. Take the laptop apart and replace the fan. Most laptops will tell you if a fan is not working.
3). The Thermal Paste around the cpu and heat sink
has dried up or is too thin to keep the unit cool. Apply a fresh coat
of Thermal Paste around the cpu and heatsink.
If your laptop is overheating you could buy a Laptop Cooling Pad from Tiger Direct at:
http://www.tigerdirect.com
When the site comes up just type: Laptop Cooling
Pad in the search box and click GO. Sort the returned results by Price
Low to High. I recommend the Sabrent for $12.99 which has 3 cooling
fans and the laptop sites on the pad. The pad plugs into one of your
usb ports.
