Connect the computer directly to the modem. make sure that you can access Internet directly connected to the modem.
The connect the modem to Internet port on the router and computer to port 1 on the router.
Open the Internet browser and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 .This will open the setup page of the router. using this setup page, you can configure the router manually.

Are you trying to run the CD that comes with the router?
I think you can try to setup your router manually instead of running CD. WRT160N router has issues with the firmware so I will suggest you to upgrade the firmware of WRT160n router first.

The router will work for about an hour and then our Wi-Fi will quit working. If I power cycle I get another hour or so of Wi-Fi then it drops off again.

Flashing the router usually works. Changing it to another frequency might help as well if there's interference on the band it's set. This is all accessible via the router config page.
Also, dirt and heat affects your router's performance, cleaning off the dust might help out

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.
