Our hotpoint fridge freezer displays an error code A1 and beeps, have took the freezer apart and melted the ice build and refitted works fine for a few days until ice is again removed, error code keeps coming back on defrost heater works if I put the freezer to the lowest setting -24 for a hour or so then put it back to warm -18 can here the ice being melted and water dripping onto compressor, but notice it does not seem to defrost on lower setting
These tempratures are pretty cold should be around 0 deg. but it sounds like you might have a bad defrost timer or defrost thermostat the frost should not come back if defrost system is working

hi there,
you have 2 problems:
frist check the freezer thermostat and make sure that it's set to at least 5 or 6. if that is okay and you still have this problem, you may need to have the thermostat replaced and maybe more.
as far as the icemaker, if it's just the ice part that does not work, i would recommend checking the valve and water line coming into the icemaker.
can you tell me if this is a side by side or a top or bottom mount freezer? if you have the model #, that would be great.

look for the manual its usually underneath...remove the grille and look inside. sometimes its taped up

Does your model have independent thermostats for the fridge & freezer???
If not, could be that you will need to change the Thermostat.
These are not expensive - around £10 if you buy on the Internet.
Easy to fit yourself...just turn off the power, remove the power plug from the wall, then unscrew the 'stat unit from inside near the top of the fridge (some are attached to the interior light) and remove the screw holding the thermostat tube to the rear wall.
Often the thermostat gets a small hole somewhere in the long tube, which then lets all the gas escape, making the stat useless.
You can see these small holes in the pipe if you use a magnifying eyeglass, like the kind Jewellers use.

In case the freezer not getting cold. maybe the tube is leaking .the freon gas scape. or your compessor is defective
