SOURCE: How to reformat ASUS Eee PC 900 notebook?

I have the linux version, not sure if you have the windows version or if it really matters. If you are looking to "reformat", you can go with the other suggestions with the USB stick. However, if you are reformatting to get back to the default settings, power on the computer and immediately hold F9. This will bring you to a screen that gives you the option to "restore factory defaults". You will lose all your previous settings, but if you were reformatting anyway, that's probably not a big concern.

SOURCE: I need software and drivers

If you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, usually one is able to download if available, by model number, All available Driver downloads as required.

This is the best way of ensuring up to date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!

There are no XP drivers to be found with Microsoft as XP is no longer supported.

Some manufacturers may have a limited number of Drivers still listed.

I hope this helps.

Hello i have an ASUS Eee pc and i reinstall it all the time.

there is two options, you can either buy a external CD/DVD drive and reinstall windows, or you can install it from USB.

It is quite a pain to reinstall the ASUS however its possible plus paying 200 to get it wiped is far to much.

here are some links that can help you and make sure you have a windows xp disc if you dont have an xp disk i suggest you use a linux distro.

In my Asus eee pc 900, my SD reader doesn't recognize my 2gb SD card. I have Ubuntu 10.10. Do I need a special driver or something? Thanks!

No. Most likely, you didn't unmount the card properly, so Linux will be afraid to touch it to avoid data loss.

What you need is SATA controller drivers to be downloaded while starting windows xp disk or ERD Commander.
Since Asus Eee does not have an internal Floppy Disk Drive (FDD), you need to use an external USB FDD.:
Step one: You would like to connect an external USB FDD.
Step two: copy scsi/sata Hardware Access Layer (HAL) Drivers for you laptop to a floppy disk
Step three: during the XP boot process press F6 and follow the prompts to insert a floppy disk with HAL scsi/sata drivers.
Step four: Finish the boot process and run fix MBR.

There is another easy way:
If you can get a Knoppix USB flash drive, you can boot it up from Knoppix and run the following command in the terminal window: sudo ms-sys -m /dev/sda.

Hope This Helps

I have an ASUS netbook that runs linux. I don't know linux, but was told to upgrade to ubuntu. I don't know how. Anyone know how?

1. I would suggest finding out which model Eee PC you are using and the hard drive size & type (4GB SSD, 160GB SATA, etc...). If you have less than 4GB, I would probably recommend using another Linux distro, as the Netbook Edition of Ubuntu is pretty heavy.

2. Next, I would probably suggest plugging in the Eee PC (Software/OS installation is very power intensive).

3. Download your distribution (Ubuntu Netbook Edition or Desktop, etc).

4. Download a copy of unetbootin for your PC (unetbootin.sourceforge.net -- There are Linux & Windows versions available.)

5. Using a USB thumb drive (USB Memory stick), you will want to wipe the drive (format using FAT/FAT32 filesystem).

6. Run Unetbootin, selecting the proper USB thumb drive & ISO image from the Ubuntu website.

7. After Unetbootin is finished, close it and safely disconnect the USB drive.

8. Next, plug the USB thumb drive into the Eee PC.

9. Turn on power to the Eee PC & after seeing the initial BIOS splash, hit the ESC key on the keyboard. This should bring up a boot selection screen. Using the arrow keys, select the appropriate USB drive and hit Enter (Return).

10. If all goes well, you should be running Ubuntu Desktop/Ubuntu Netbook Edition as a live desktop. (The installer is a link on the desktop.)

11. There are several step-by-step guides out there, so check them out, if needed. The installer should be very simple on this type of hardware, etc.

Good Luck!

Linux version won't upload software

Try Linux Ubuntu Version 10.04 for netbooks... Or the stable 9.10. You can easily create a bootable USB flash drive to test BEFORE fully installing.

what version of linux are you using? If it's one that came preinstalled with the laptop I suggest looking at Ubuntu netbook edition, *very* capable OS, if that can't handle it nothing will.
