How can i get belkin n300 to recognize motorola SB6141?

There is no password on the SB6141.
There are no user configurable options. Any configuration is changed through communication with the CMTS.

When you access the modem (192.168.100.1) all you can do is monitor the signal quality and certain log entries.

NOTE: the "configuration" page allows you to reset the factory defaults and to restart the modem. IF you reset factory defaults this note applies:


Resetting the cable modem to its factory default configuration will remove all stored parameters learned by the cable modem during prior initializations. The process to get back online from a factory default condition could take from 5 to 30 minutes. Please reference the cable modem User Guide for details on the power up sequence.

You may need to enable IPV6. All Comcast modem updates are done automatically. I would contact ARRIS for additional assistance. Comcast also has a helpful online community.

Yes, it's theoretically slower, but that depends on your connection. Which to Buy the Arris Motorola SB6141 or SB6121

The 6141 is not a "gateway". It is always in "bridge mode". However, some crazy engineer decided that the 6141 should have a default DHCP server -IFF- it was unable to completely sync with the cable modem server (i.e. the other end of the cable). I have not been able to figure out how to turn this "feature off". But once it was by-passed, the 6141 worked flawlessly.

*by-passed: somehow (god only knows) the numerous reboots of the 6141 finally synced with the cable provider so that DHCP to my router was finally a "real" IP address. (not 192.168 or 10.0.0.0)

The ISP modem (cable) connects to wireless (yellow port) PC and other devices connect to any port available on wireless. This is the standard setup.

its ok,it can be tough for non savvy users to use networking gear.belkins are very user friendly. the top port on the back of the router is where the modem cable goes,modem cable is a cat6 cable if you dont have a cable handy. the ac adaptor goes into the very bottom port.

THIS ROUTER SUPPORTS CAT 5 CABLE

So you will need a modem that supports CAT 5

I have a similar problem. The common denominator seems to be the SB5101. I have a brand new Belkin Surf 300N, same issue. The modem will not give DHCP to the router. I can connect fine via ethernet to the modem directly.
This modem seems to be a dinosaur.

I would start by re-setting the modem. Disconnect the power for the router and modem. Wait a minute or two. Plug the modem back in first. Wait for the modem to complete communication with your internet service provider. When all communication lights are good on the modem then plug the power into the router. It amy take a few minutes to get all the lights. Hopefully this will allow the DHCP to release from the old router and renew to the new one. Make sure if your internet provider requires any manual configurations that they are properly configured in the new router.

Plug your cable line into your modem, make sure it's tight, but don't use a tool. Next plug the ethernet line from the modem to your PC ethernet port. Then plug in your power to the modem. Allow your modem to sync. Don't use the USB line at all. Do not even hook it up unless your computer doesn't have a working ethernet line. Don't run the disk either, it will only install the modem driver that is only used if you use USB.

If you have issues connecting after that, you may have to go into your ethernet adapter settings and make sure that it is using DHCP. DSL usually uses a different setting (PPP I think) and you will not be able to connect.
