No agitation or spin? try these:
Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and
Drive Belt If the washer won't spin or agitate, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.
Drive Motor If the washer won't spin or agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged, replace it.

Stator Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Transmission or clutch assembly not engaging due to going out or slipping.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Ultimate Care HD Plus Model #LSR8233EQ0 won't agitate or spin

It sounds like the coupling between the motor and gearbox has worn out. It should cost around $15 plus shipping and handling.

SOURCE: Whirlpool washer fills drains but does not agitate or spin

It sounds like you may have a broken motor coupling. This is the most common cause of the symptoms you are describing. Whirlpool manufactured top loaders (such as Roper) use a motor coupling in place of a drive belt and are known as "direct-drive" systems. No agitation, or spinning, associated with a grinding noise are the usual symptoms. The washer should still have the ability to drain, however.

The following link explains how to access the coupler and replace it, if necessary:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574231-replacing_a_motor_coupling

The part number is included with the instructions I provided. Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers I provided and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. The coupler is usually sold as part of their in-store inventory. The average cost of a motor coupling is only about $15.

Another cause would be a failed gearcase (transmission). I would recommend checking the motor coupling first, however. If the coupler is still intact, please let me know. I can give you guidance on how to replace the gearcase, if necessary.

If you have any questions, or if the symptoms I describe do not match the problem you are experiencing, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: The washer fills agitate but won't spin & drain

Possible fault with the program controller unit. You need to check the program cycle outputs using a multimeter connected to measure the output voltage. On start the inlet should open and then close as the water level sensors works and then proceed to wash. So this much seems OK. Now in the next step the drain valve must open to drain off, then fill once again with the inlet working and water level being sensed. If there is no output in this section cycle then the prrogram controller has errors within the memory . You can remove the panel and reset all connectors and connections.

Washer will not Agitate?

Had to send mine to repair for the same issue. They claimed a computer was malfunctioning. There was also an interlock that kept the agitator from engaging. Cost was nil for me because it was under warranty.

Whirlpool washer WTW5510VQO will fill, spin and drian but won't agitate, just makes a clicking noise.

If this is just clicking then the agitator bearings stuck or something is jamming it.

Not sure if manifold is leaking

Leaks water...check the pump first. The fill valve and hoses may be the next step. See how to take apart info. With the use of plastic drain hoses on many machines today, this has become a common leak trouble maker. The drain hose can rub the wall or a pipe and this will rub a hole in the drain hose.

Washer clothes

Does the washer fill normally and just stop? Or, does the washer fill, go through a complete cycle, and just won't drain? There could be a couple of problems that cause a no drain issue. 1. FILL NORMALLY & STOPS, WILL NOT SPIN - This is usually a bad lid switch. If you open and close the lid, you should hear a "click", indicating the switch is working. 2. FILL NORMALLY, AGITATES, WILL NOT DRAIN - This could be a clogged drain pump, pinched hose, clogged rain line. Also, you need to make sure timer is advancing properly. If the timer never advances, the washer will fill, but won't go into agitate or spin. Let me know if this is helpful.
