Blackberry troubleshooting Keyboard fails to come on for writing

Try it with another keyboard. Would've thought a read/write failure would have more to do with the hard or optical drive.

If you have not tried this yet, follow the instructions below.

STEP 1.
There is a Device Self Test Diagnostic Application that will test your BB including your keys on your keyboard. You can check each key one at a time. Go to OPTIONS, (the WRENCH ICON).
STEP 2.
On this screen select STATUS.

STEP 3.

Type the word TEST. (you won't see it but it will give you a prompt when ready to proceed. (

STEP 4.

It will prompt you to select START from the MENU.
This will begin the diagnostic selection process.

STEP 5

Click on KEYBOARD & TRACKBALL.

STEP 6

Click on RUN.

STEP 7

Press each key one at a time they should show up on the screen as you do so. If they do not function the keyboard is probably defective.

You should take the phone to the corporate store of the service provider to have it replaced if it is under warranty or if insured. Call the insurance company if it is out of warranty. Either way your BB should be replaced.

PS Note down any error messages you receive (in this case diagnostic test failed) so you can accurately tell the technician/counter person when he asks for the problem. It can help the Tech speed things up while troubleshooting.

Plug the phone into the computer after you have opened Blackberry Desktop Manager and one the phone is connected and it registers a pin on the bottom of the Desktop Manager software select application loader then choose update software.

Then pick the 4.5 or 4.6 os you may need to downgrade thats ok.

If desktop manager will not recognize your phone then download JL commander and select the wipe option then try the steps above.

That you will probably need to reinstall the OS. Try doing this through the Desktop Mnager. If it works great. If not then you will need to wipe your phone (try using JL Cmndr) and the reinstall the OS.

It's a logic board issue. Try to open it and clean it, if that fails - there are blackberry repair websites that show you how to do the replacement yourself, otherwise here is a service that can repair any Blackberry

From the Settings/ Options and Screen/Keyboard there is a backlight timout option where you can change the settings.

Personally, if there is not much on the BB, entering the other 3 bad passwords with start a Master Reset on the unit, and that may fix your problem with the keyboard. If you have data on the phone you want to save, I would try syncing it first before doing the master reset.

BIOS Beep Codes
When a computer is first turned on, or rebooted, its BIOS performs a power-on self test (POST) to test the system's hardware, checking to make sure that all of the system's hardware components are working properly. Under normal circumstances, the POST will display an error message; however, if the BIOS detects an error before it can access the video card, or if there is a problem with the video card, it will produce a series of beeps, and the pattern of the beeps indicates what kind of problem the BIOS has detected. Because there are many brands of BIOS, there are no standard beep codes for every BIOS.
The two most-used brands are AMI (American Megatrends International) and Phoenix.
Below are listed the beep codes for AMI systems, and here are the beep codes for Phoenix systems.

AMI Beep Codes
Beep Code Meaning 1 beep DRAM refresh failure. There is a problem in the system memory or the motherboard. 2 beeps Memory parity error. The parity circuit is not working properly. 3 beeps Base 64K RAM failure. There is a problem with the first 64K of system memory. 4 beeps System timer not operational. There is problem with the timer(s) that control functions on the motherboard. 5 beeps Processor failure. The system CPU has failed. 6 beeps Gate A20/keyboard controller failure. Phoenix Beep Codes
