Open freezer and reach to the back of the plastic cover over the light. You'll feel a gap in the back center of the cover. Gently pull forward and the cover will drop down and pull to the back to fully remove it. Once you've removed the cover you can unscrew the bulb, which you can use to make sure you purchase one like it and most hardware stores, such as Ace or Home Depot. Reverse the removal instructions to install light and cover. Light should turn on once you've screwed it in.

SOURCE: kenmore elite refrigerator, model # 59676534500

I went ahead and signed up for Sears' service warranty since I knew I had to get someone to come out.  IT costs $200/yr.  They say it covers everything, but when the technician came out, he told me that it just covers $500 per visit.  He said that a new motherboard and the labor alone was going to make it $498.  Anyway,   he had ordered a new motherboard. Apparently the motherboard wasn't working.  It is located in the back bottom left side of the refrigerator behind the panel.  There is a compartment on the lefthand side that slides out and houses the motherboard.  He put that in and also had to fix the fan that is in the back of the freezer.  That fan is the one that sends cool air up to the refrigerator part. When I had looked at the fan before the repair man came, it was not moving at all.  So at least take a look at the fan in the freezer.  Just take out the freezer drawers, and the fan is located in the top center of the freezer behind the compartment cover.  Maybe that's the problem with your refrigerator, the fan.  Hope that's all it is. Good luck!

This first thing I would do is remove the panel on the back of the fridge to access the control board. It should be about half way up on the left hand side if you are looking at the back of the fridge. There should be four 1/4" screws to remove. In the middle of that board there should be a reset button. Press that button then let me know if that worked.

How do I change light bulb in freezer

Hello Joe;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

I would like to help you but you did not provide a refrigerator model number, which is on the fresh food section liner wall. replacement is different depending on your model number.

When you do change the light bulb, it is a special bulb, you may be able to find it in your local supper market, or have to go to your local Home Depot.

How do you change the bottom freezer light bulb

Hello Joe;

This is Peter again. I just responded to your question. Please send me the model number.

Bottom freezers should be out-lawed. They are the highest maintenance and most difficult to service.

How to change a bulb in the Kenmore refrigerator

Most likely, you never notice the light bulb in your freezer or refrigerator until it is not working. Then it is time to replace the bulb. This is especially important with freezers, which are often in areas with poorer lighting, like basements or garages. Fortunately, the task is a simple one.
Instructions

1 Unplug the freezer to prevent an accidental shock when you remove the light bulb.

  • 2 Open the door of the freezer, look at the top inside edge of the freezer, below the door seal and back about 1 to 2 inches from the edge. You will see a small plastic or metal panel that protects the bulb from damage and shields your eyes from the direct light of the bulb when the door is opened. Reach behind the guard and remove the bulb by twisting it to the left.
  • 3 Put your new bulb in by inserting it into the socket and twisting it to the right to screw it in. Be sure you use a freezer bulb--it is built a little tougher and is the correct wattage. You can find them at appliance or hardware stores. Plug the freezer back in to test operation of the bulb.

  • Have a nice day! : ))

    To avoid personal injury or property damage, observe the following:
    • Allow light bulb to cool.

    Fresh Food Section
    (style of light shield varies)
    1. Slide clear light shield toward back of compartment to release from light assembly.
    2. Remove light bulbs.
    3. Replace with appliance bulbs no greater than 40 watts.
    4. Replace light bulb cover by inserting tabs on light shield into liner holes on each side of light assembly. Slide shield toward front of refrigerator until it locks into place. Do not force shield beyond locking point. Doing so may damage light shield.
    Freezer (style of light shield varies)
    1. Reach behind the light cover.
    2. With firm pressure, press forward on the notches at the back of the cover and pull down the cover will open from the back.
    3. Remove the cover.
    4. Remove light bulb
    5. Replace bulb with appliance bulb no greater than 40 watts.
    6. Insert front tabs of light cover into slots in freezer liner and snap rear portion over light assembly until rear tab engages.
