Manual or Automatic?

Usually the problem is a worn out Strainer basket oring. With the addtional strain of trying to draw water through 40ft of vac hose it is easier to draw air from a worn out strainer o ring. My suggestion is to reverse prime, replace o ring if leaking and make sure you lube it with a silicon based lube.

Hi a please need a diagram of the vacuum hoses the small pipes going to all sensors please on the ford focus 1.8 tdci

sorry cannot help here ,i do know that they run off the vacumn pump and one goes the fuel vapour recovery and another goes to the vacumn unit on the EGR valve .After working all day my brain hurts ,well its going into sleep mode at least ,but from what i recall on my escort 1.8 diesel anyway their is also another one that goes to the injector pump to increase idle when AC is turned on .but a later focus with common rail wouldnt have this .

New fuel pump but no fuel going to carb fuel bowls

Pull the fuel line going to the carb and see if the gas is there and if its a nice strong steady flow, if not the line is clogged.

My truck is having a hard time starting but eventually it would start. I changed all spark plugs an what is the next step. If my fuel pump works ill change the fuel filter again. If the fuel filter didn't...

make sure the plug gaps are 25th as a wide plug gap will cause bad starting ,cannot see a fuel filter causing bad starting though but as a thought first check the vacumn pipe to the fuel opening valve on the fuel rail is a valve with a vacumn pipe running to it ,the vacumn of the engine opens this valve to allow the fuel for the injectors and if it has a vacumn loss then it will not start ,as for the pump then just check for a 12v feed to it engine is cranked ,lots of people change the fuel pump as they think their is no feed but it will only show a feed when engine is cranked then when it runs it will also show 12v ,right must go to make the tea or iam in the doghouse

99 taurus, changed fuel pump. car runs but not holding fuel pressure when turned off making it hard to start.

it doesnt hold pressure the pump primes it straight away but on teh end of the fuel rail is a vacumn operated valve that allows the build up of pressure required and if the vacumn pipe or the diaphgram is perished then thats your problem

Heater and Air conditioner work bur air flows from window vents only. Can't change direction of air flow to different vents.

There may be a couple of items to look at here.... but the most common problem is a source of vacumn to the pneumatic operation of the heat/a/c vent doors....if vacumn is not distributed properly to the vents you command it is assumed that there is either no vacumn to the selector swith panel(broken vac. line, kinked vac. line, defective in dash a/c control panel) or under the hood a defective vac./heater control valve that is stuck, frozen, not allowing the vacumn to pass through it to supply the indash pneumatic controls and/or panel.
Most vacumn systems that i have ever came in contact with incorporate a vacumn supply tank(nothing more then a round plastic vac. resevoir) which is used in sequence with the a/c heater controls, its purpose is to keep an even vacumn supply to all command points continously while the vehicle is being driven, without this supply one will experience the a/c coming from various different non selected dash vents upon acceleration, this is a direct relation to the tank either being defective(leaking vacumn) or its supply hose(usually vey tiny rubber/plastic tubes) being pinched or broken not allowing the vacumn to the supply tank.
listen for vacumn leaks(hissing sound), look for the obvious...broken vacumn lines or hoses, also check for a defective one way vacumn valve on some pneumatic controlled door vent systems(these valves are inserted in a vacumn line one side being the ""in" port and the other side of it being the "out" flow port, typically if these dont work the vents will also devert your a/c or heat all different ways through your dash.
to check these valves, simply remove from the vacumn hose, and apply vacumn to one side,if vacumn flows through the valve, apply the same vacumn to the opposite side of the plastic valve, if vacumn flows through on the opposite side the valve is bad, it should only allow flow from one side not the other. These valves are small and are usually white or black plastic and look like the old vacumn dash pots used on the old carbureated engines only smaller with one small hose in and one small hose out.

85 Yota pick-up, Ultra High and Low Idle, now no start

mcdevito75 here, Could be a dirty fuel fliter, remove fuel inlet toarb, crank engine but don"t start, container of 1 pint of gas should pump out from detached carb. fuel inlet, if not replace fuel pump. Very high idle and very low idle could also be a major vacumn leak, check all vacumn hoses, also check intake manifold, spray soapy water around intake manifold try to start, if you see water sucked in or engine now starts, there"s your problem, a vacumn leak.

yes!! they are related change the vacumn pump ! once the pump starts to wear out you lose vacumn to the fuel pressure regulator and other components that require the air to to make them work diesel engines were and are not! designed to run on a normal vacumn like gasoline engines are they depend totally on the air / vacmun pumps to feed/ drive many seperate components

96 cruise control issue

vacumn pressure for your cruise control will be 14.2. Connect a test hand held vacumn pump to control modual and then drive the car to see if cruise control works in any way. Plus, when pumping vacumn to madual, check to see if throttle linkage moves.
