Why does my garman not come on when plugged into car power source, and power light shows green light?

A borrowed power cord makes it work. I did a map update, and that worked fine

  • jnlleyenaar Jul 20, 2014

    I'm using the original power supply cord. How do I get at the fuse to check it? I don't think the plug end that goes into the car socket has a cap with threads, as some others seem to have.

  • vpitman1 Jul 20, 2014

    One of mine has this, while another just popped open. I was not aware that it had a fuse. If you read the specs on the label, it will say something like 6V (volts), 1.5 A (amps), and it should have a line that says fuse and its rating. If there's not a line that says fuse, then it doesn't have one, or it isn't designed to be replaced. On the other hand, if you find that label, you'll know the rating for a replacement charging/power cable you need. You can order a replacement, but you could also a try a local electronics store like Radio Shack. They can check the plug size and power rating and get you one that can replace it.

The Garmin Nuvi has a green light, or the charger does? If the charger lights up where it plugs in to the car/truck, but the GPS won't, your charger has a bad cable (or a blown fuse; in rare cases, some cords have fuses built in). That's the most common problem. If your GPS lights up and won't come on, are you sure it's the right charger? If it's not getting enough power (again, possibly a damaged cord), it won't come on. I have a pair of chargers for two different devices. The chargers look the same, but one puts out more than double the power of the other. Either device will work with the high power charger. Only one will work with the low power charger.

SOURCE: Hi, I have a garman zumo 550 it will not turn on.

This is a common problem with zumos that I and friends have. It is a real pain but pulling the battery and putting it right back in works. Sometimes for a week sometimes for a month never kno. I wore out the special screw on the battery and went to a 4m plilps hed screw as garmin does not have a screw available.

SOURCE: want to update maps

Yes, you will need to download the webupdater program from Garmin to get new maps for your Nuvi 200. Transfer the files to your SD memory card and then plug that SD card into your Nuvi 200. Click on the link below to get started

Monitor flashes logo and then turns black.with red lights on

Here's some tricks I would try. Something here, might help...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your monitor on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.
Good luck.

Trailer Wiring

Hello all,

For those of you that need to wire up a trailer or have to occasionally borrow trailers and look at the wiring plugs with disdain (I mean face it they don't make sense, grd is white, +12vdc is black, etc), this is for you.

Plug Types/Application
7 Way - RV Trailers, Horse and Utility Trailers
6 Way - Horse, Stock and Utility
4 Way - Utility Trailers

Columns are: Color, Function, Mark on the plug.

Seven wire Trailer plugs:

Horse, stock or utility trailers:

White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Yellow = Left turn/Brake - 5
Green = Right turn Brake - 6
Orange or Purple (not both) = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

Recreational Vehicle:
White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Green = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Red = Left turn/Brake - 5
Brown = Right turn Brake - 6
Yellow = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

Six wire trailer plugs:

Horse, stock or utility trailers:
White = Ground - GD
Yellow = Left turn/Brake -LT
Green = Right turn Brake -RT
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - TM
Red or Black (not both) = Battery, aux power - A
Blue = Electric Brakes - S

Recreational Vehicle: (color, use, plug mark)
White = Ground - GD
Brown = Right turn Brake - RT
Green = Tail and clearance lights -TM
Black = Battery, aux power - A
Red = Left turn/Brake - LT
Blue = Electric Brakes - S

Four wire plugs:
White = Ground
Yellow = Left turn/Brake
Green = Right turn Brake
Brown = Tail and clearance lights

Ground should be 10ga.
Others 14 ga

A test light and a 12VDC power source can be handy for trouble shooting.
Best regards
Mike

My HP pavilion laptop has a problem when I power it the lights just go on then off

Start by making sure its plugged in and charging. most laptops have a light that is on if the cord is plugged in.if its plugged in and there is no light one wiggle on the connection on your power cord. start at the wall and check every connection. if the light blinks than you power cord is bad or the power port in the laptop has disconnected from the mother board. Some computer stores will have a loaner universal laptop charger you can borrow. I recommend borrowing there universal before you buy a new power cord

I tried to power on my computer and there was nothing. It was plugged in and the battery light was blinking amber when I tried to press the power button. The light on the power cord is green but there is...

It sounds like the Power adapter is:

1. Not plugged into the computer
2. Not functioning
3. Has a broken connector (or the laptop has a broken power connector)

Unplug the adapter, remove the battery, hold the power button on the laptop for 30 seconds. Plug in the power adapter connector to the laptop - if the power indicator illuminates, remove the power cord, insert the battery ant then plug in the power cord. Press the power button (hopefully you're back in business).

If that does not help, p borrow an adapter from a friend and try it with your laptop, if it works, then go buy a new adapter!

Have not used my Garmin since January 2011. Sitting on shelf. Plugged in to my car charger and would not turn on. Would this mean it needs charged?

After three months, I'm sure the internal battery needs to be charged. But even so, it should work when plugged into the car charger. The first thing you should do is check that the charger cord is connected properly at both ends. Mine has a green LED on the plug. If yours does, make sure that light goes on. Try jiggling the connectors at each end of the power cord. If it still doesn't work, the next thing to try is replacing the power cord. (Maybe you can borrow a power cord from a friend). If the power cord isn't the problem, I'm afraid the problem is in the Garmin itself. Good luck.

XBOX 360 power brick flashing orange and green

according to the microsoft website:

The power supply has several built-in safeguards to help prevent damage to either the console or to the power supply itself. The power supply can turn itself off when there is too much current, too much voltage, or too high a temperature. Under these conditions, the light on the power supply will turn from green to orange or to red. Or, the light will turn off. When the power supply light is green, the power supply is working correctly.

To help the power supply work correctly, always try to use the following best practices:
  • Make sure that all ventilation openings in the power supply are free to ventilate.
  • Do not put the power supply on a bed, on a sofa, or on any other soft surface that may block ventilation openings.
  • Do not put the power supply in a confined space, such as a bookcase, a rack, or a stereo cabinet, unless the space is well ventilated.
  • Do not put the power supply on a stereo speaker, an amplifier, or a heat source such as a radiator or a heat register.
  • Plug the power supply directly into a wall outlet. In other words, do not use extension cords or power strips.
Basically, feel if it is overheated. if it is let it cool down. If not try a different wall socket. If that doesn't work you probably have a problem with your power brick or console. Try borrowing someone else's power cords.
