The camera has one xD slot, and is supplied with an adapter which fits into the slot if you wish to use micro-SD cards. Regular SD and mini-SD cards will not fit.

My gateway computer won't read my 32gb sdhc card

If your current card reader isn't compatible with SDHC cards then you need to get one that is. While SDHC cards fit into the SD slot, they care electronically incompatible and won't work in devices not designed for them.

Downloading picuters directly from your digital camera SD or XD card.

You can purchase a Targus card reader from Walmart which will plug into a USB connector on your computer. Directions on it's usage are included with the card reader. The package says it is compatible with SDHC SD/MMC, XD, Memory Stick, Pro Duo, and Magic Gate.I ran into a problem with the Targus TGR-CRD25 when trying to read an XD or SD memory card 1GB or bigger. Targus fixed it with a note on their web site: To operate plug card reader into
the USB port, go into "My Computer", click "Removeable disk drive", insert your memory card into the card slot and upload your data. Please remove your memory card before disconnecting the card reader.

The instructions say to use SD/SDHC memory cards only. I purchased an Olympus x-D picture card M+ 2GB. Is this a card I can use? I do not know what the difference is.

No, if the instructions say that it will only take a SD or SDHC card then that is what you must use. They are different shapes, with different contact layouts, and different formats. They are not compatible with each other unless the devices specifically supports it.
Here is what a typical SD card looks like: crasher35.jpeg

Compared to the xD card: crasher35_17.jpg

They generally will not fit in each other's slots.

2 problems: 1: The 16GB memory card reads "invalid card" and 2: how do I install the 2GB XD picture card. It doesn't fit in the memory card slot. So confused

Let's dismiss the second one first: the xD-Picture Card format is now obselete; your camera was announced just as Olympus was quietly removing it from their cameras, and its specification makes no mention of an xD-Picture Card slot. It's possible that for marketing reasons they included one, but as it's not in the specification I have to assume that it's not there.

For the first problem, there are two answers depending on whether it is the Camera or the Computer which says "invalid card".

This answer applies if the camera says "Invalid Card". Assuming that your 16Gb memory card is a SDHC card, it should indeed be compatible with your camera; your next step should be to try formatting it in the camera to see if it accepts it. It is preferable to format the card in the camera rather than a computer, to ensure that the right filesystem is used. The format command will be in Menu/Settings but probably near the bottom; they don't want people formatting cards by accident.

This answer applies if the computer says "Invalid Card". The most likely solution if your camera can read the card but the computer can't, is that your card reader is not compatible with SDHC cards, but only SD cards. Look for the "SDHC" logo/legend on the reader, and if you don't find it, purchase one that does have it. SD and SDHC cards are physically the same, but SDHC provides High Capacity by extended addressing.

I have tried a new sd card for more memory and it reads card error with every new card i try i've tried 3 different cards now and the original still works so i know the reader works but it just doesnt...

You won't be able to use a card larger than about 1GB (maybe 2GB) in this camera. "SD" cards larger than 2GB are actually SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

Why won't my sandisk imagemate 5 in 1 reader recognize my 4GB sandisk SDHC card? Is my computer at fault? The camera is a Canon Powershot SD1200IS ELPH 10.0. Thanks. [email protected] ...

The ImageMate 5-in-1 is compatible with SD, MMC, MS, MSPro, and xD cards. It is NOT compatible with SDHC cards.

While SDHC cards will fit into SD slots, they will not work in SD devices.

The SD slot on my digital camera looks wider than an SD card

It appears to be a normal SD card slot.
The camera can handle cards up to 1GB.
