Is it going to run on 230V then? If so you would normally use red and black. The white wire should be a neutral and the ground wire is obviously ground.

Do you have a meter you can use to confirm the voltage between the wires? If you do you'll want to start with red and white since you seem to think black was not being used before. If the voltage reads 230 and the motor is set up for 230 then attach one wire to L1 and the other to L2...it will not matter which is connected where as long as one is on each terminal. Insulate the black and ground the ground lead to the motor ground screw.

If the voltage is not 230 between those two check between red and black. If that is the 230 then insulate white and put red and black to L1 and L2.

Installing a i.5 hp pump, on the wiring does black go to l 1, white to l 2

Sure...you can actually hook either wire to either line terminal. Be sure you have the voltage selector set for the incoming line voltage your circuit will be supplying to the motor.

Remove the back of the motor ... you will find there are flats on the shaft. Put your 7/16 or 1/2 open end wrench there and with your other hand, spin off the broken impeller.

Replaced Single Speed Pool Pump Motor with 2-Speed Motor

You will need a two speed time clock to really take advantage of real energy efficiency savings. Intermatic makes one that fits in place of the original t104 time clock. You will need to run an additional wire to the pump as well. You will have the ground. Then one common wire that is always hot whether or not you are on high speed or low speed. You could make this a white wire. Then a black wire for your high speed that is energized in high speed and a red wire for the low speed. It is important that the high and low speeds not be energized at the same time, otherwise you will hear a very unpleasant sound coming from the motor, and failure and shortened life of the motor will be realized. Wiring new motor

I am assuming you are running 110 vac. Usually there is a diagram on the plate with the motor specification. You want the low voltage for110 and high for 220 motor wiring diagram you connect the motor as shown. If it is not on that motor it maybe on the old one they are usually the same.

You will need wire nuts to tie together the wires.

Note if this is a capacitive start or switch start. Allot of pool pumps are Switch start.

Which wires goes to which post ? Just bought an ao smith 3/4 hp booster motor for my polaris pool cleaner. It has two yellow wire posts. Which do I conect the black and white wires to?

It does not matter. Just make sure it is set to the correct voltage your system supplies to it and that you put pne wire on each terminal as the diagram on the side of the motor will show you.
