SOURCE: Dell XPS 410 will not even bring up Bios start up

6 long beeps is a Ram Memory problem.

Suggest this;

1.Computer off, unplugged from power. Computer case open.

2.Work on a table, touch the metal frame of the computer case. Doing this will relieve static. Your body carries Static, and Static will fry out computer hardware components in a Flash! You won't see it or feel it!

3.Remove all Ram modules. ('Sticks') Now reseat them. Be sure they/it are seated in all the way, and the lock tabs are clicked in on both sides of the ram stick.

4.Remove the CMOS battery. Press the Power On button in, and hold it in. Hold it in for a count of five seconds. Let go of the button. Do this two more times.

(You are clearing any CMOS Error Codes, and resetting BIOS back to the factory default settings. Some computers have a capacitor besides the CMOS battery, and will store a charge. Pressing the Power On button in the procedure stated above, will help to ensure that all residual power is drained. If you do not clear the CMOS Error Codes, you will wind up with the same problem)

5.Replace the CMOS battery. Close the computer case. Plug the computer back into power.
WAIT 1 minute. Turn the computer on.

I would like to know your findings. Should you still want to replace the motherboard, I have some recommendations. Dell doesn't state what form factor the motherboard in the XPS 410 is. I suspect it to be a Micro-ATX form factor. To be sure measure it.

1.ATX form factor: 12.4 inches by 9.6 inches
(305mm by 244mm)

2.Micro-ATX form factor: 9.6 inches by 9.6 inches.
(244mm by 244mm)

Let's start by the size of the motherboard first.

The motherboard chipset, (Northbridge/Southbridge chipset) used in the Dell XPS 410 is the Intel P965 Express chipset.

(Not bad really, but I prefer Nvidia motherboard chipsets. Why? Because you have a lot more options to tweak the system. The Nvidia 750i MCP chipset is a really decent one. So is the Nvidia 680i LT, and the Nvidia 780i)

SOURCE: My computer is a dell

6 Beeps in your Studio XPS 8100 computer indicates Video Card failure.

The Motherboard is unable to detect the Video Card properly or not at all.

Try removing and re-seating the Video Card by following the instructions in the link which opens up the Service Manual of the computer:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/studio8100/en/index.htm

If the computer still behaves the same way after removing and reseating the Video Card, you may have to get the Video Card replaced...check with Dell about the Warranty and if the computer is still covered under warranty, get the Video Card replaced.

However, if the computer is out of warranty, you can replace the Video Card in the computer with any one of these as per your choice:
ATI Radeon HD 5770

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260

NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240

NVIDIA GeForce GT 220

Dell Vostro 230. PC will not power on completely. When the Power button is pressed, the hard drive cycles for a second, it beeps, then shuts down again.

that's easy.
1 beep? you said BEEPS, so tell me its not one beep then leave off how many beeps in a bundle.
1 beep is RTC Coin cell dead. replace. it. page 7 in the manual
2 beep no RAM found
3: beeps. mobo bad. (or?)
4 beeps. 1 ram bad or more. try 1.
5: beeps same as 1 above usually. bad battery for sure.
6 beeps video chip failures. remove card if in PCI-e slot.
7: CPU cache mem. failures, rare but if VRM bad, not rare.
i guess you meant this, ?
Vostro 230 Mini Tower Desktop Computer this is really what it is.
That beep tells you , it sees something very serious wrong.
There are 2 possibles and many tests. do you want to learn?
forget the HDD, unplug it first , focus on FANS first.
both fans, PSU and CPU must run and stay running. my guess not.
  • PSU Bad.
  • or
  • MOBO has overloaded the PSU.

so all tests are to prove 1 or 2. out.
easy no?, a binary choice.
what a tech does next is strip the PC down.
pull out the cards that are in PCI (or express) slots. run now? fans?
pull the power cables from all SATA devices, hdd ,dvd, all.

unplug all USB devices, (overkill but is done for 1 odd case )
test the mobo with CPU in and 1 stick or DDR ram'
only then try each stick of ram 1 by 1.
this is all SOP, standard op. procedures in any shop.
if a module of any kind shorts the PSU sees that and shuts it self off.
the CPU if overheated, too shuts the CPU off, dead saving its own bacon.

if stripped down PC,
just mobo, CPU and any stick of ram makes the PSU shut off
we test the PSU by itself
it that passes the MOBO is bad.
never seen any CPU short ever, VRM's lots.

the power lamp has 5 states of color.
page 7 in your manual if you want to look.
solid blue is normal others bad, black or flashing color.
RTM pg 7.
here it is, at Dell, cost nothing to read.

I get 5 short beeps when I turn the computer on. what does that mean?

Marty,
The 5 beep code on the XPS 9100 refers to a CMOS Battery Failure. You can click the link below to download the online manual. The manual provides information on removing/replacing parts within your computer.

I removed my MD Phenom X4 9650 Quad Core Processor from my M3N78 Pro because the video went out on it . I now have a M4N78 Pro , put the processor in it and It wont stay running . It comes on beeps and...

The onboard GPU chip is part of the chip set and not he CPU.
you do know that right:" ok sure m4 replaced M3 board. sure.
so still using onboard GPU /VGA> sure.
runs for 1second, 1 min.10min 1hour, what? time wise?

XP is travesty to use. it' a virus magnet, it ended 4 year ago.
NObody today runs XP . end rant.

Ok so the MOBO is dead that is serious.
so this old M4n78
ok almost 10 years old, is the RTC coin cell dead, they do that in vast numbers after 7 years old. replace it or use a voltmeter
2.9v is min, allowed 3.3v new. I buy them in bulk for 10cent each.
or $2 at walfart.
so that beep is bad.
I means bad news. that sound. it is coded, that beep, counts?
bad RAM, try 1 stick at a time yet.
unplug all things first, HDD, DVD drive? just run mobo 1 stick ram , CPU, only? run a near ***** MOBO:

PSU bad?>
the CPU needs a heatsink and fan and thermal grease
does it?
the CPU temperatures on most mobo by this company you can see CPU temp.'s. INSIDE BIOS.
if you see temps run near 80C (50 is my max) the CPU shuts it self off at 90C , all P4 processor so that on up.
so does the AMD, same thing, protecting itself real well.

on the asus, site, did you look at the qualified processors list yet>
that be like day1 first. thing.
and does i looked now, supports that chip. but only BIOS 603 up
current BIOS is v1303. best be there.
Flash it when stable.

if the mobo runs for at least 1minute,does it?
use the bios SET DEFAULTS , first.
that will correct what others did wrong, like cranking up clocks etc.
the find the BIOS TEMP page, CPU heat)
No processor runs lacking proper cooling.
and I cant see what you have before your eyes.

The on mobo VRMs can tell the PSU to shut off
this means overloads on the VRM (CPU side)
or bad VRM or PSU has issues.
we keep spare PSU at all times, or would get nowhere fast.

Upgraded Studio XPS 435/9000 Ram - Now No Windows 7 Start

Check speed settings in BIOS, make sure that the sticks are the correct voltage for your motherboard. If the specs are correct, try a program like memtest86. This will tell you where the problem is, but it is up to you to find which stick that location is :) Might take some trial and error before you find the defective one!
