Why does the pump turn on and off when water is not being used

should be in the rear near water storage tank...you can listen for it if its working at all,just turn on the water and scoot around to listen.

Deep well.
Pressure valve located on front of above-ground-storage-tank will turn pump on-off depending on amount of water pressure inside tank.
When water is consumed inside home, the pressure valve responds to the lower pressure and closes electrical contacts... sending electricity to water well pump located deep underground.
The pump turns on and lifts water through a pipe into the above ground storage tank.
When the tank is full of water, the pressure valve senses the higher pressure and turns off electricity going to pump
Pump shuts off.
There is a one-way check valve on the water line going down to pump, and this keeps water from flowing back down into well.
The above ground tank maintains water pressure for the house.
When pressure is reduced by taking a shower, the pressure valve turns pump on again, and cycle repeats.

backwash is easy. dont let it scare you.
here are the steps:
-turn off pump
-roll out backwash hose
-push down on handle and rotate to backwash
-turn pump back on
-depending on type of filter, run for minimum 2 minutes (watch discharge water. run until it is clear) if there is a glass vial, you can watch that until water is clear.
-turn off pump
-push down on handle and rotate to rinse
-turn on pump and run for 30 seconds (water will leave discharge hose)
-turn off pump
-push down handle and rotate to filter
-you can run pump immediately

Can you describe the pump you have? Is it used for household water or a sprinkler system? Typically a household pump will have a storage tank and a pressure switch. 90% of the problems with a pump not turning off is due to the pressure switch.

There's not enough water running into the pump this is why its cutting out , hope this helps

This is and indication of a water logged pressure tank. Turn pump off, drain all water from tank, add air to well tank, 2psi below cut in pressure IE: 30-50 switch the air charge should be 28psi in well tank. Make sure water valve after tank is turned off before adding air, so it is not lost before turning pump back on. If problem persists replace well tank.

If there is a surge tank in the system this is not working.
Try raising the cut-out pressure. It sounds like the pump is reaching high pressure even when you are using water.

Here's how to test your pump
Check oil as outlined lower down
Disconnect the washer hose and gun
Connect water hose and turn on water and water should pass straight through the pump
Look for clogs in the hose-end where water hose connects to machine

Turn on machine and see if water shoots out pump
If water shoots out of pump, but no water shoots out of gun, then you may have a 'mud-dobber' wasp clog in your washer line or gun

Look for clogs in the end of each water connection.
Now connect washer hose without the gun, tun on the machine, and see if water shoots out of washer hose
Finally, the gun trigger mechanism may be bad
I don't know which gun you have ... but we replaced guns on our machine now-and-then ... google-search power washer guns for a replacement

Check your pump oil
Pump oil is SAE20 or SAE30 non-detergent motor oil
Pump should be no more than 1/2 full of oil
Use plastic hose to drain pump oil
Do not turn machine on its side or turn machine over or engine oil will run into carburetor

You have to make sure that the pump is flowing enough water to activate the Stiebel. The tankless unit has a activation rate of a certain amount of water to turn it on.
