1. Did you pay the bill? Check with them, maybe your service got cut off.
2. If it isn't #1, Take the SIM card out and put it back again, maybe the SIM card is faulty.
3. If possible, go to settings, mobile network, and choose to search for your wireless carrier, once it pop up, tap it to register.
4. You also must make sure your APN is in order. And have the correct APN check for Straight Talk.

(You can also use the Nook HD+ anywhere there is a public Wi-fi service (Starbucks, libraries) or a private wi-fi network with permission. You do need to be wary of the security threats on these networks (malware, password trapping, etc.))
Here are the settings I found over the internet. Take a look at it. But I am not sure the service provider is the same though. You better enter the things you've been told by your service provider
