First take out the battery, and run it on AC power alone , if it runs ok its the battery that has died, it you still can run the laptop with orw/o a bttery then the internal power supply has died.

Need to get a replacement keyboard as it looks like one of the connections that handles that row of keys is bad.

Go to START->CONTROL PANEL->SOUND
Click on the RECORDING tab, click on the mic that you want to use. Click on the SET DEFAULT button.
Done.
