get a filter with a smaller diameter end. fuel filters come in all different sized ends so find one that is small enough and then it still may take some work to force it on
a lot of carburetors are being made with no adjustment screws available to the public for EPA reasons. if you can't find them then they are probably not there
I had a similar issue. Tiller starts and runs for 20 secs. or so then dies. Found the problem! In turning the tiller on its side to check model numbers etc. the fuel line had shifted inside the tank and was stuck just about at the TOP of the fuel level. When I gently pushed the fuel filter and line back to the BOTTOM of the fuel tank, the tiller now runs beautifully! So, check that the fuel line placement inside the fuel tank is correct.
The problem is likely in either the carburetor (needs rebuild kit) or the fuel lines (deteriorated).
Rebuild kit: available directly through Mantis or through a number of sources including ebay. This is a relatively inexpensive and can be a DIY project. Cost around $15.
Fuel lines: become cracked and allows air to get into the system. Check closely (especially within the carburetor where line attaches to the fuel filter pickup). Again, an inexpensive project in which parts can be alternatively picked up at some of the bigbox stores such as Lowes Hardware (in the trimmer section).
The top of the carburetor is where the fuel line with filter out of the tank goes. The other line on the bottom of the carburetor is the return line it goes back into the tank. Of course your fuel mixture may be old. Anything over 30 days now is being considered bad fuel. You may need to mix up some fresh fuel mixture and try it. Good day.
One line (the one with the fuel filter in the end of it) comes out of the fuel tank and goes to the bottom fitting on the carburator. The second line comes out of the tank and goes to the bottom fitting on the primer bulb. The third section of line goes from the top fitting on primer bulb to top fitting on the carburator. Hope this helped and best wishes.
