Press and hold the video 1 button and then press the speaker A button - you should see 'clear' on the display. This will reset everything

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-DS474 Receiver shuts down after Standby mode.

It's going into a protect mode. The amp is probably shorted out. Disconnect the spkrs and turn it on. If it still shuts off, it's the amp, if not, it's the spkrs.

SOURCE: i have a onkyo tx-sr506 receiver that turns it self off

This unit is in protect mode. This means that a problem was detected and the unit has shutdown to prevent further damage. The most common cause of this is failed output transistors. Plan on $20-$40 for parts for this repair.

SOURCE: Can I play my ipod through my Onkyo TX-SR600 receiver?

All you have to do is get a 3.5mm plug to two RCA plugs lead and plug the 3.5 Jack in the headphone socket of your ipod and the two RCA's into an aux imput and away you go. If you get one of the small docks, that will stop the battery running down, but you don't need one.
By the look of the picture on FixYa it looks the RCA's can go in the front socket under the volume control.

I have the TX-DS474 Onkyo receiver. A couple of months ago, the remote stopped working at all. I have also tried two different universal remotes, with the latest being the Harmony 700 - - still no luck. ...

The sensor itself wouldn't cost much to do it yourself if you can find the part. I would say if you do take it into a shop, I'm certain that it will be minimum of 100.00.

Onkyo TX-SR701 Digital audio port stopped working

you may want to try a factory reset by pressing and holding vcr1 button while pressing the power button. do this with the unit on. It will reset back to factory default. so any saved setting will be lost and you will have to set again to your settings.

Front buttons won't work

The microprocessor may be locked up. While pressing and holding "video 1", press "speaker A". When "clear" appears in the display, the micro has been reset to the factory default condition. To do a full reset without taking it apart, it may have to sit up to 3 weeks for the backup battery to run down.

Re: ONKYO with New LCD HI Def Television

Hi Lucylu

I don't have a solution to your problem -- but I do have the receiver and want to hook up my Plasma TV through the ONKYO TX-DS474 receiver. Its a great receiver but am not sure it will "do the job" being so old in the tooth.

Hope you found a solution!!
