How do you switch out the tumbler in a key switch on a 87 Jeep Wrangler?

I lost my ignition key. I want to switch out the tumbler in the ignition lock without taking of steering wheel. I don't need to replace the whole lock, just the tumbler. Thanks

Unfortunately without the key you cannot replace the tumbler without drilling. this damages the whole assemblywhich means that you do you have to replace the ignition key cylinder the procedure is to drill into the ignition key hole about an inch and a half with a 5/8 drill bit . make sure you drillr straight hole in the path of the key.after you drill the holethe whole cylinder will rotate and come outallowing you to replace it not sure if you can buy tumblers by themselves comes with the whole ignition cylinder with the tumblers inside of it

Key won't turn on a jeep wrangler 2016

The most common reasons a Jeep Wrangler key won't turn are a binding steering column/lock, an ignition switch issue, or a problem with the ignition key.

Have a 93 jeep cherokee. Ignition is locked in the on position, will not crank over, but there is power.

If the key will not turn past the on position, and it turns to all other positions then you need to replace your ignition switch, if it doesn't turn anywhere but the on position then you need to replace your tumbler. For the ignition switch you will need a mechanic, for the tumbler you will need a locksmith.

How to remove key switch on 1994jeep

Before you start tearing into this repair, let me ask a couple of questions.
Do you want to replace the ignition tumbler assembly because you lost your ignition key, or because it is broken or worn out ?
If you lost your key I believe Chrysler can help make you a new one, you will have to get your VIN number and call your Chrysler dealer.
Please let me know

The key on my Jeep Wrangler will not turn so that I can crank it. If this is the ignition switch, how is it installed?

could be, try moving wheel right to left while trying to turn the key, steering wheel may have tension on lock, if that doesnt work try another key if still nothing then replace switch, remove cover around switch, then use a pick to push in lock pin must trun key to get pin to go in you will see little hole on housing were lock is that where you install pick and push while truning key, got to get key to turn once more to get that lock out.

Ignition tumbler locked up. Key still works well in doors. Steering wheel is not locking, but key wont turn

try a spare key, or push key into lock while turning
it is the tip [pointy end] of the key that releases the switch tumbler lock allowing it to turn. keys & switches wear out, a 'heavy' key ring especially wears the switch.

Resetting the tumbers on a 1990 Jeep Wrangler's door locks to match the key you have for the tailgate lock....how do you do it? Thanks, Troy

You have to go to the Jeep dealer and they can take it apart and install new brass tumblers to match the key.

1998 Wranger Ignition Key Stuck / Steering Column Locked

I have had this same problem on 4 of my Jeeps. A locksmith provided me with two answers.
This key thing happens to me at least once a week.
It is a common problem with Jeeps. 1998 Wrangler, 2007 Cherokee and two 2000 Cherokees all had the issue.

1. Replace the tumbler assembly. $150. USD (Not!)
2. Place the key in the ignition, smartly impact the key on the **** end, end that is sticking out of the ignition. (Harder is not better) strike straight on as to not break the key off. 4 or 5 strikes should fix the problem every time.

FYI - flooding the switch with WD-40 will not fix the issue, it is a tumbler problem.
