I just bought a lawn mower made my Briggs & Stratton but I can't get the Dip Stick off to put oil into the mower how do you get it off?
The dip stick twists out, and sometimes are tight, or hard to turn. be sure and replace it as tight as you can, back presure in the crankcase will blow it out if it's not tight
Many of the dip sticks that are removed from the top of the engines are "keyed" to go on one way. This is usually with the little picture of the oil can at the 3 o'clock position and turned clockwise to secure. I've had people insert the stick with the picture at the 9 o'clock position and they have to be pried off. Look inside the cover to see what I mean.
Can you send a picture highlighting that area? Most dipsticks are in the fill tube where it says "oil"
I have two different kinds of dip sticks. One turns to the left and the dip stick is on the bottom of the oil filler plug on top of the engine and comes out and one just pulls straight out like on a car engine.

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it
run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,
but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you
buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will
get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, count the
number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns
they were in/out.

Good Luck, I hope this helped

If there is a problem that your having I can help you if you would just elaborate. I could save you lots of time. The 2 most common failures of this engine is on the carburetor. The parts that fail are the diaphragm (Item 394) and the primer bulb (Item 976) of this link:
