Why does the start button not sta on when I release it? If I hold it in the dryer stays on.

What you describe is either a failed evenheat board or a failed motor relay.
Please post the complete model number from the machine and I can help you narrow it down. There should be a wiring diagram inside the console with voltage checks also.

there is a holding contact at the motor wiring, check the schematics and trace that holding contact. it should hold the motor running as soon as it starts.

There is a switch assembly on the motor that activates when the motor is running. Centrifugal switch. It keeps it running when you release the switch. That is where to start. Eric

It sound`s to me based on your description, the start relay/switch is faulty. (the other unlikely possibility is the start switch in the motor).

If you call a local part`s supplier or check out searspartsdirect.com, apwagner, partsdepot, repairclinic etc. with your model & serial number, they should have that part for you.
