How do I change hold music? - Samsung Prostar 816 Phone

If you're reading the programming instructions in order, keep going :-) I have no clue what SLT hold mode has to do with music on hold or background music, but when you get to 111-BGM-Music On Hold source, you can set it to external and you're in business.

The music source plugs into the EXT MUSIC port of the Panasonic System cabinet. It could be one or two jacks on the side of the box or the MPR card. Whatever supplies the music would need to be reprogrammed. In the USA, it's illegal to play unlicensed music on hold without paying a fee.

The music is external to the phone system. In the back room or a closet somewhere, there's a dark blue and black cabinet that has a port that's marked MOH. It will go to some kind of box or computer that supplies the music. It may have a model or phone number on it. You change the music by buying or recording new MP3 files to play.

Back in a closet or electrical room, there's a back and blue cabinet with all the wires coming into it. That's the phone system cabinet. Your Music is plugged into a port labeled MOH.

When you get to that, it will be some sort of MOH player. Post back when you find it. If it's an On-hold product, there's a software program to change it.

If it's truly music and not tones, the music comes from a device plugged into the system cabinet. On the side of the system there is a port marked MOH with a cable and a box at the other end. Here's where you find the MOH device and either change the CD or record new messages into it.

If you are listening to internal music on hold, it is done at the PBX. A general user can't change it.

If you truly have music, it comes from a box plugged into the cabinet. The unit could be made by several manufacturers, or could be a CD player. If the talent is music with alternating male and female voices saying "thank you for holding we appreciate your business", etc. then it's probably an OHP-6000 that comes with Message software. http://www.onholdstore.com/software.html

If you have "tones" on hold, then you need to acquire a music on hold box and make a couple of programming changes to set it up. MOH boxes and messages can be found by search engine. The keywords on hold music will get you 19 million hits.

The on hold music comes from something plugged into the TDA cabinet in the back room. Sure you can change it, but you have to find it first.

Such sources can be an On Hold device from Intellinet, A Premier box, or maybe a Nel Tech box or simply just a radio or CD player.

Once you identify what you have, post back here and someone can talk you through sources to change the message.

There are two internal "tunes" that nobody likes. You can also set it to "tone," but that usually makes people think they have a call waiting - and they hang up on you!

Your system will have an input for music. You may have something attached already and so that would need to be changed to what you want. OR you may be using a built-in internal tune. Usually connecting an external source will over-ride any internal music automatically but it may need to be changed in programming. If you connect a new external music system, you can use just about any music device with the right cable. Just make sure it is line-level input (low volume - not amplified) or you can break the music circuit.
