Either the switch, wiring or brush bar motor is bad or you may need a new belt

SOURCE: beater bar on Dyson upright won't turn when handle is lowered

I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.
This my new year resolution is to warn people not to buy Dyson vacuum cleaner ( Junk) design to break down! Shame on you Dyson!!!! Save your money find good old vacuum cleaner with metal parts.

OLD IS IN NEW IS JUNK!

Happy New Year!

SOURCE: The beater bar makes a horrible clunking noise when I turn it on

I just came from the repair shop. There is a recurring problem with a bearing coming out. Repair guy turned it on & said that loud noise is a symptom of that exact problem. This is a warranty item, as is the belt & on/off switch. Dyson comes with a 5 year warranty, so call their 800 number to get the name & address of an authorized repair shop.

SOURCE: My Dyson Animal 14 beater brush will not turn.

It MAY be a clutch issue. I had a similar problem with my DC07 Animal recently a posted a solution elsewhere on this site, but here's the summary. To reset the clutch on my model, recline the vacuum, turn it on it's side and slowly change the carpet/bare floor knob from one setting to the other about 6 times. This apparently reset the clutch and now it works fine. You may also wish to call DYSON. They're very helpful and walk you through troubleshooting before recommending servicing. Their number is 1-866-693-9766. They'll need your model and serial number (located on bottom of uinit).

Its highly unlikely you'll get a free answer on this web-site, so it's either fork over the money to these jokers or get an answer for free on another forum.

SOURCE: dyson DC 14 lost suction to beater bar/ suction to hose/stick

My Dyson DC14 had no suction...see if this works...turn the Dyson upside down...there is a length of hose that connects the bottom of the vacuum to the top, careful remove one end of the hose and check for debris...mine was clogged. Removed the clog and voila...it works. Thanks for the above info on checking the hose for cracks.

The beater bar will not turn

Hello rebh. Generally when the vacuum beater bar will not turn it is because the belt that turns this beater bar has broken.

That said, most of the dyson's require you to buy a beater bar assembly which includes the belt. Any vacuum cleaner repair shop will have this part. OR go to this link http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/brands-products/Dyson-Inc-Parts/Vacuum-Parts

Dyson blueprint beater bar won't turn

The Dyson DC 17 has a rug / floor switch on the head of the vacuum. Please check to make sure the switch is in the Rug position. If the brush roller still does not turn then you have broken the belt and need the following part.

We have a dyson dc14 and the beater bar stopped turning, we cleaned the bar off and checked the belt and it's not broken, I know I called Dyson a year or two ago and they told me how to reset the beater...

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when the machine is locked upright. When you release the head and pull the handle back this dial should mopve forward to the on position. Once here, the brush bar should turn.

If this doesnt resolve the problem, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards

Howdo I replace dyson belt??

Replacing the belt on the DC-17 is not complicated at all. Once I understood how, the process took about 5 minutes. My best suggestion is to call Dyson and they will quickly and cheerfully walk you through it without making you feel stupid. Here is what they told me: 1. Remove the bottom plate that covers the beater bar, using a flat head screwdriver; pull the beater bar out so that it is only attached by the belt. 2. Use the flat head screwdriver to wedge the belt off the beater bar. It takes a little bit of wiggling, but it is not difficult. 3. Once the belt is free of the beater bar, use the screwdriver to unhook it from the gear that is attached to the motor inside. 4. With the new belt, repeat the steps in reverse, hooking the new belt onto the motor gear, over the beater bar, etc.

Dyson DC 17 Asthma allergy Vacuum

I had a similar issue. I called Dyson. Hey why not, the number is right on the from of the machine. SO IS the beater bar on/off button, right next to the big red on/off switch. It does have a safety off when something jams the bar from rotating so the motor doesn't burn out. I also removed my sock and on restarting the thing, the beater bar would motor was not turning on. I thought the reset would be inside but no, it is right outside in plain view, which I didn't see either. It is a grey button opposite the big red on/off switch. Boy did I feel dumb after that phone call!
