Connecting Laptop to LCD

Hello

I've been trying to connect my laptop to the Samsung TV using a VGA cable (male to male). I think I've determined its something to do with the tv because the cable works when I plug it into my monitor on my personal computer. I cannot get the tv to register that anything is plugged into the PC slot. When i press source it is only recognising the DVD player and Sky box plugged in through scart. Any suggestions?

I also have the same problem. My laptop detects the TV once connected with the VGA male to male cable but the TV does not detect the laptop to allow me to activate the "PC" mode. Have contacted Samsung but they don't know what the problem is. Could it be the type of graphics card I have? (ATI)

It might have something to do with wether the VGA cable has all pins connected.
I think some cables don't have all 15-pins wired.
As soon my LCD TV works I will post the outcome.

Solved the problem connecting samsung LCD TV with laptop.

You need all 15 pins wired VGA D-Sub connector cable.

The faulty cable had only 9 pins wired !!

I've also got the 32 inch samsung and have just connected my laptop through a VGA cable, male to male.
I had to set up my multi screen on my laptop for it to work.
You must tell the laptop to send the image through the cable to the tv.
the only problem i found (more so with the laptop) is that i can not set the resolution perfect for the tv.
I'm sure i'll figure it out.

Laptop to T.V. connectivity

Hello!
This is my first time using this site, but I will try my best to assist you.
From what I understand, you want to connect your laptop display to your T.V. In turn using your T.V. as a "monitor".
So you were wondering if you could use a S400 to HDMI cable to accomplish this. Unfortunately I don't believe this is possible with that cable. To my best knowledge, S400 ports are only capable of transferring DATA between devices, not VIDEO. A VGA or HDMI cable will accomplish what you want. I don't think your laptop has a HDMI port, so I recommend buying a male-to-male VGA cable.
I looked up your T.V. and it looks it should have a VGA input port. This is what I did for my laptop and 32 inch LCD T.V. when i accidently cracked my laptop's screen.
It may not be High Definition, but you should be able to get fairly decent resolution. Make sure your T.V. is on the "Computer" input channel. (Or equivalent)
I don't recommend buying a VGA to HDMI cable converter as it usually doesn't result in improved quality.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

I am trying to connect my acer 1640z with my tv (lcd) with a vga cable but there is no connection even when i press Fn + F6 buttons. What can i do?

make sure your TV is on the right channel. it will not connect automatically.
connecting a vga cable will only provide picture but no audio. you may need a male to male stereo cable and connect it to the laptop and the tv's stereo jack.

To play laptop thru samsung tv I am attempting to play laptop movie thru tv. I have tried the rca y cable with 3.5 mm plug from headphones of laptop to red and white audio in on the samsung tv., no sound....

So you are connecting the laptop to the TV using VGA port of the TV, right? To get sound in the PC input mode, you need to use the PC audio input jack (green jack, mini 3.5mm jack) not the RED and White RCA audio input, they are for Composite Video AV inputs. That is how I have my laptop and TV setup to watch Netflix.

Unable to connect to samsung tv as monitor for hp laptop

Hi there
DSUB is VGA, has your TV got a VGA port on the back? if so and you know what the source the channel is then you will need a male to male VGA lead and a mini stereo jack to left and right male phono jacks for the audio, the DSUB or VGA does not carry audio through it.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

Connecting Laptop to LCD

VGA cable doesn't carry any audio: use your audio output from PC into TV audio Input (standard RCA).
You need to configure your Display Properties to manage TV screen to get an effective connection.
Either you have a generic Video Grafic Driver add on (I'm using Intel Graphic accelerator) on your display properties either you are using a specific (NVIDIA) driver for your video card.
To check go to CP/ Display, settings Tab and in advanced you should be able to check your choice (if you don't want to go to user manual.
You can also (in CP/ Display, Settings tab configure TV as a monitor and select your option accordingly: use screen resolution on screen # 2 not over native resolution of your VIZIO screen (1080 x 960?) and be sure to use all the parameters as TV can accept.
As soon as TV is configured as per resolution and refresh etc..
check the presentation function on your PC: it's normally a FN key showing a screen icon on key top (on my Acer travelmate is FN + F5) on aspire may be it's FN + F4.
This function key will circle between: PC mail screen -> External screen (as you configured on Display settings) -> both screen.

S-Video output: If you have video card(external u will have this), you require an s-video cable and you connect s-video out of your computer to the s-video int of our TV.

TV-OUT: if you have video card(external u wil have this) you you require an coxial cable and you have to connect TV-out of your computer to TV-IN of our TV(it is place where cable connection goes from your cable operator)

DVI-D: if you have video card(external u will have this) you require an DVI-D cable you haveto connect DVI-D out of your computer(a white 15-pin port which looks like VGA port) ....

VGA: it is the port on your computer which is only used to connect to your computer but not to your TV or LCD(strictly)
