Unfortunately error code 99 in non specific. Try this as it works sometimes. Remove the lens and clean the contacts, remove the battery and the memory card and leave the camera for about 10 mins for any build up of charge or static to dissipate. reinstall the battery and card attach the lens and switch on, leave for 5 seconds and press the shutter then try the flash again. Hope it works for you.

SOURCE: Error 99 only when flash pops up

We ended up sending the camera in to Canon. $200 unless they find something more wrong. Luckily we have my Nikon D80 still. I will say that Canon replied via e-mail fairly quickly and one paid, said 7-10 business days for the repair.

SOURCE: Pop-Up flash - Rebel xti

You will need to send the camera for servicing. There's a lever mechanism inside the flash unit which is responsible for popping up the flash. Since it is a mechanical device, it is sometimes prone to failure. I suggest not to put manual pressure to force the flash to come out, as it may cause permanent damage. Instead, send the camera for service.

SOURCE: Canon 450D, ERROR 99 only when flash pops up

Err 99 usually means your lens contacts are dirty either on the lens itself or on the camera.

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the “ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.

ERR99 means the camera is not communicating with the lens - probably just dirty contacts.

Err99 when taking pics in sun. Taking in side with flash fine, pics outside at night are fine?

Error code 99 indicates detection of a system malfunction. Try switching on the camera and while it is still switched on remove the battery. Leave it for about 30 secs then re-insert the battery once powered up switch the camera off wait 30 secs then switch it on again. This action sometimes will remedy this problem but failing that it may need a visit to the repair shop.

Err99 and busy flash

Per the problem description, it seems the flash circuitry has a malfunction.

In order to perform a correct diagnostics and repair of it, it is necessary to open such camera and perform it by a qualified camera repair technician.

If it's under warranty, I do recommend you to send it back to make valid the warranty.

If not, then you have the options of pay for its repair, or do it yourself if you are willing tgo open it and perform some basic diagnostics of the failure. You will need tools to do it, which includes the usage of a soldering iron.

Using exturnel flash

Already answered by me in another question by you...

The "error 99" is a general error on Canon cameras meaning "something's gone wrong and I don't know what to do about it". If you get them all the time, the camera is effectively dead and must go back to Canon for a service repair (circa £175 if I remember correctly).

If the error 99 only happens when you try to pop up the flash, but otherwise the camera can take good pictures, then yes, an external flash unit could well solve your problem. With an external flash on the hot-shoe, the internal flash is completely bypassed and the camera will never try to pop it up.

I recommend taking your camera to a shop such as Jessops and ask to try out a flash gun to be sure.

Canon Camera Rebel XTi reads error 05 and the flash will not pop up

Err 05 means: Something obstructed the built-in flash's pop-up operation. Turn off the main switch and turn it on again.

Prepare to press the flash request button with your left hand. With your right hand, position your thumb and finger to gently pry up the flash head, perhaps using fingernails. Push the button and pry. With that help, it should pop up.

NEW PSP

You need at least firmware version 3.00 installed, preferably the latest one available. Both official and custom firmware will work just fine with it. The main menu of your PSP (XMB) will then show a Camera icon under the photo line. To see what firmware you have, go to System Settings in the XMB and select System Information. If you need to update, read the PSP manual.
