Ryobi BP42 leaf blower will start but will not rev - how can I fix this?

The leaf blower is hard to start, but eventually will idle very low. However, when I push the trigger to add gas and allow the blower to run harder, it just turns off like it is getting flooded. Any ideas?

On this model, there is what I would call a factory defect. There is a tiny hole in the heat dam gasket on the engine side of the carburetor that is situated too close to the large air intake hole. The gasket will eventually fret away between the small hole and the large hole due to the high velocity air flow. The end result is that the small hole opens up to the large hole causing the carb to supply too little fuel and bog when you rev it up. Replace the heat dam gasket and the blower will work properly.

Yes, I replaced the gasket and it works great now! I wish I would have found this out prior to spending hours on this darn thing, but it's fixed now!!

Is it the gasket that is right behind the carburetor itself (562927001) or the on on the other side of the heat shield, against the engine (562927003)??

Its actually the opposite of flooding. Its lean. Adjust carb or rebuild carb.

Sometimes the spark arrestor gets plugged up with soot.
Take it out and clean it or buy another. It unscrews like a spark plug. I forgot where it located but look around you'll
find it somewhere.

SOURCE: ryobi leaf blower #8544,25.4 cc

I have a McCulloch, that the hose rotted off the fuel strainer in the tank, I replace the hoses, it ran for awhile then stopped, removed the carb. an have cleaned, { 7 Times} it runs for awhile then stops, Usually I dump lighter fluid in the carb. if it starts Ign is OK if not its a fuel problem. You could check on the filter, I still have a problem with mine, its a pain when your on the roof an it stops. so check the fuel filter is the only thing I could suggest to you GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: yard broom leaf blower will not stay running I

It seems that the carb is not getting fuel. It could be a cracked fuel line. The fuel priming bulb could also be cracked/dry rotted. Possibly the fuel pump in the carb is bad. The carb is rather intricate and not something anyone without training should try to repair. The overhaul kit will cost $15 to $20. I suggest you take the blower to a repair shop.

SOURCE: My leaf blower will not start, It keeps flooding

To start: turn the choke off, hold the throttle wide open and crank. You have a carb problem but this should get you going. John

Ryobi BP42 leaf blower will start but will not rev up when I push the trigger - how can I fix this?

Its a lean condition, not getting enough fuel. Check fuel filter and fuel lines. be sure you have fresh fuel. and the carb needs to be adjusted or rebuilt.

Hi
On the rotochoke scale, between the run and half choke position there is a hole and in it there is a screw. This adjusts the idle. Turn clockwise to speed up, anticlockwise to slow down
