SOURCE: Can't format 2 GB sd card for HP 735 camera

Make sure the SD card is unlocked. There's a tiny switch on the side. Put it into the camera. Under storage, when you select the card, also select format.

SOURCE: Camera won't work because the sd card is protected

First I know you've said you've checked the card's slide switch, but just want to restate this first for others with the same problem who may not know of this switch.

Check to make sure that you didn't accidentally place the tiny locking slide switch on the side of your SD card in the "locked" downward position. The correct "unlocked" position should be slid up toward the direction of the connectors.

If you've tried this, and it's still showing locked, it's likely that the locking switch inside the camera's card slot is stuck. If you look inside the slot on the side of the slot where the SD card slide switch would be, you'll see a glint of gold color on the side. This is the camera's lock/unlock switch. The other glint's of gold that you may see at the far end of the slot are the reader's connectors (ignore those).

Somehow, the locking switch is making contact and has become stuck in the locked position. With a plastic toothpick, or other skinny NON-METALLIC item, tap against this switch to see if you can jar open the contact to its normal unlocked position. Also try blowing compressed air at it, as some gunk may have worked its way in there, jamming it closed. Occasionally, reinsert the SD card to see if the issue has been corrected.

If repeated tries fail, it may be time to consider opening the camera to force open this switch (not recommended unless you have some familiarity with electronics). In this case please see the following (xscrewdriver, hope you don't mind me referencing your blog):

SOURCE: Tried to unlock Lexar SD 2GB and Lexar SDHC 4 GB - No luck

First of all, the 4GB card will never be able to work in your camera. Check on its face. It likely says SDHC, and SDHC cards as this format came out after your camera was designed (I know it looks exactly like a normal SD card, but it's not).

Now the 2GB card should work with your camera as it is a standard SD card. Remove the card from your camera. Look on the side of the card for the tiny slide switch, and slide it to the other "unlocked" position. Reinsert it in the camera, and see if that corrects the problem.

I insert a 16 gb SD memory card in my NuVue 700 plus photo frame and it is not recognizing it I took the picture with cannon slr camera. What could be the problem?

The NuVue 700 works with SD cards. Your 16GB card is actually an SDHC card and won't work in devices not specifically designed to work with SDHC cards. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Purchased 8 gb microSDHC Card with adapter for my cannon SD500 & WHILE TRYING TO FORMAT memory card GET AN ERROR saying card locked. I've moved the slide tab to the UP position but continue to get card...

The SD500 uses SD cards (and by extension, microSD cards). SDHC and microSDHC cards are electronically incompatible. While SDHC cards and microSDHC adapters will fit into the slot, they will not work in SD devices. This is a hardware issue and cannot be updated by firmware. You need to go with SD (and microSD) cards, 2GB and smaller.

I have a JVC 20 GB camcorder. Model GZ-MG2-1U. Before I tried to install an 8MB SD I selected on the menu to protect all. I turned the camera off, installed the SD card, turned the power on and then I...

There should not be anything to install when inserting an SD card, all you do is put the card in the card slot. If you tell it to format you have to go into the menu first and tell the camera which you are referring to the card or the harddrive. If you didnt change the setting to SD card when you did give it the format command than that is why your data was lost. If you are having an SD card error make sure that the little slide switch on the card is set as not to protect the card that will give the error sometimes. I hope this helps

Cannon Powershot A540 SanDisk SDHC 4 gb I insert the card and receive a memory card error. Can't format

Hi,

A 4 gb memory card is beyond the capacity of your Cannon A540. It is too large. I would stick with a 1 gb card in that camera.

What does error code 00400 mean

Moultrie told me they could not fix the camera. I removed the Lexar 512 SD card and re-ran the test. The test passed and the camera worked. I replaced the Lexar SD card with a Cannon SD card and reran the test. The test passed and the camera works. I put the Lexar SD card and got a 00400 error message. Change SD cards. It fixed the problem for me.

Asking what to do?

8 GB is more than your A540 can handle. You can check with Canon, but I'm pretty sure that the max that your camera will understand is 2GB. Additionally, your 8GB card is most assuredly an SDHC card and not a standard SD card. Your A540 also does not understand SDHC format. The max card that you should buy for that model camera would be a 2GB standard SD card. These are very inexpensive these days and run about $6, shipping included:
