SOURCE: Poulan " Wild Thing

It is running lean, they always need to run a little on the rich side free running, once the engine is loaded it will then need the excess fuel, it runs ok without the bar and chain because there is no load, start by replacing the fuel filter in the fuel tank, check the fuel hose up to the carb for signs of fuel leakage, replace if reqired, if the carb has standard adjuster screws, increase the H screw by 1/4 turn out ( anto clockwise ) this will richen the mixture.

Replacing engine assembley isolator

Most brands of saws require partial disassembly of the saw to replace the isolators. Yours is probably no excepion. You should take numerous pics on your smart phone during disassembly to eliminate a lot of questions during reassembly. Make sure the correct length screws go back in their respective holes if there are multiple length.

Some older saws required near total disassembly to do it correctly.

Poulan pro 295

Not sure if this will work for you but I had a lawnmower with too much compression and my mechanic said i had put the wrong spark plug in which was too long and that caused too much pressure when trying to start I almost ruined the engine. I put the proper plug in and seems to work ok now.

What is the file size (to sharpen chain) for a Poulan Pro 295 46cc?

I am pretty sure this machine ran a .325 pitch chain, so the file size is 3/16, if it is running 3/8 low profile chain ( 91 ) it will be a 5/32 file, the pitch should be marked on the bar .

My Poulan Pro 295 chain saw starts fine, runs for a few minutes, then stops and will not start until completely cool. What could be my problem?

It sounds very much loke the ignition is playing up when hot, just as a little test when it starts to die slacken off the fuel filler cap does it pick up/re start? if yes it is a fuel tank breather issue, replace the breather.

I have a poulan pro 295.I cannot remove muffler to get to spark arrestor.I removed the 2 bolts and the muffler is loose but I can't get it off.

Hello Tom;
Look at the link "Engine Assembly" print. If your saw has multiple pieces like shown there is an additional internal screw. If not the only thing that comes to mind is remove the engine cover.

I would like to go down A bar size our two on my poulan wildthing

I have a Poulan Pro 295 20".  When I bought it I also bought a 16"bar and chain and have been using those since.  They make the saw much easier to handle and are a better match to the available power. The key dimension is from the bar's mounting hole to its end.  At the store look at the normal replacement bar for your 18" saw, and pick out a 16" or even 14" bar with the same dimensions there.  This can be easily seen by laying one bar over the other.
