Ice Maker on/off switch has blinking red light, will not produce ice. Manual no help

The manual doesn't tell me anything about that blinking red light at the icemaker on/off switch. It's not producing ice, the water line isn't frozen, the freezer is good and cold, there is no ice jammed in the storage bin or dispenser parts. Help! My Whirlpool Gold icemaker will not work after I replaced the filter. Water lines seem fine. Just doesn't make any ice. I have move to the temp to the next level and cleaned the grills. Still nothing has happened. Any suggestions? Thanks

Same thing here. However on mine it doesn't appear that the water solenoid is getting any signal. Its obvious when the water door solenoid energizes. I put a meter on the solenoid wire and get 4-6 vac. I'm assuming this should be closer to 110 vac. I'm thinking there is an interlock in the way... ideas?

My Whirlpool Gold ice maker only makes ice intermittently. The water is fine; the temps are fine; and, the optics are working correctly. We have followed the troubleshooting instructions in the manual but, nothing has helped. We are confused because there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the ice production. Just as we're about to call a technician, it makes ice!

Thank you all for the information. Regarding a Whirlpool side-by-side can someone tell me what the red light means (regrding the red light in the freezer that remans solid when you hold the flipper door down and don't block the beam).

What does it indicate as solid red?
What does it indicate as solid green?
What does it indicate as flashing red?

    Thank you...

When you open the freezer door the light should be blinking. When you hold the flipper door shut (on the left hand side) without blocking the beam, the light should stay on solid. If all of this happens then the optics are o.k. If optics are ok then you most likely have a broken motor module on the icemaker and should replace the icemaker thermostat along with it. A bad icemaker thermostat will lead to the module breaking. If you not sure how to replace these parts then I would just replace the whole icemaker. That would be easiest and usually not much more expensive.

my optics seem to be fine, because they do what you say they should do. However, it seems no water is being dumped into the ice maker itself. What could this be?

When I hold the flipper door shut my light still keeps blinking Red. So this means my optics are bad? How do I replace them?

I have a Kenmore Coldspot 106.55526400 and I'm in a very similar boat. I found a cube lodged in the plastic teeth which apparently stopped the sweeping rotation. After this no water in the tray. Cleared the ice out of the tube that dispenses water to the tray and got water and subsequently ice in the tray, but no heating or subsequent sweeping motion from the rotating arm. I took the apparatus apart and appears to be no broken parts. Gear is in tact as is the rod it spins. I'm thinking the motor burnt out trying to turn when the ice cube was lodged in the teeth. Thanks for your insights FridgeTech (esp. optics!)

I'm having the same problem. When the flipper is down, the red blinking light stops. I do not hear water being filtered through to make ice.

SOURCE: icemaker not working, but water dispenser is

Water valve has separate coils for water to door and to icemaker. If icemaker is cycling the valve is likely the problem.

SOURCE: Icemaker not producing ice

Most automatic ice makers have a lever (looks like a piece of wire) that is prevented from being in the down position when the bin is full. This stops the ice maker from producing ice when not needed. The lever can also be lifted manually to a locked up position which turns the ice maker off as well. If the lever is in the up position, simply press down on it, it should release and return to the down position. Once down, the ice maker will begin producing ice again (the unit will have to complete its cycle before you see any ice, normally a couple hours or less). Hope this helps.

Please take the time to give this solution a fix ya rating.

You have a better chance of finding out that the problem is a broken moduele. The fingers that grab the ice and rotate it out they should be resting at the 2 oclock posotion. If stuck in any other posotion its broken. It's expensive but not hard to do. If you had a bad soloniod you would either have a frozen tube or a block of ice at the top

SOURCE: Food freezing in refrigerator storage bins

produce has more water in it to freeze. Try turning down the temp in the fridge part of the unit you may try putting a termometer in there to gauge where it should be adjusted to, about 38-41 degrees is a safe temp for keeping food.

Ice maker not dumping out ice

Your ice maker has a heater on the bottom of the tray that heats up the tray enough to allow the ice to release from the tray. It's energized when the ice maker advances to a point that the fingers touch the ice. There is a micro switch inside the head that turns the heater on. You will need to remove the ice maker to repair it. You should have two 1/4" bolt on the top and one or two on the bottom ( Don't know which model you have). If I knew the model number you have I could tell you what you would be looking at after you pull the front off the head of the ice maker. There are two major types. One you can test while still mounted and the other you can advance only. Once you have taken the unit out, you can ohm the heater. If it's good, your problem will be the micro switch. It cost around $8.00. If the heater is bad, you can replace it, but It's hard to do and I think you will find it will be better to replace the ice maker. I have replace a few and around half didn't work afterwords due to them breaking while installing them. You have to bend the metal over the element ot install and it's tricky to do this without breaking the element. I Hope this helps. Please rate my solution. Thanks

Kenmore 106.56542400 No ice, red lite blinking

Many people claim that raising the freezer temperature and using a hair dryer to defrost the ice maker will solve the problem. As for the blinking light I believe that is part of the ice maker sensor to tell if ice storage is full or not. Here is a link to the troubleshooting forum. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Light blinking on ice maker control switch

The red light on the right side of the freezer at the on off slide mechanism is normal and ok. I indicates the ice maker is not in a cycle at the time. It is not meant to tell the customer the unit is ok or it is not ok. Ignore the light.
