SOURCE: bad smell in drum of washer

Unfortunately this is a quite general problem today as we are washing more and more in rather low temperatures. Gunk and slime packs up in the rubber gaskets and elsewhere in the machine, smells horrible if not kept under control.

There are a few things you can do.

1) The most important thing IMO is to make sure to wash at the highest temp at least once a week, 90-95 degrees Celcius.

2) Always leave the washing machine lid half open when not in use in order to allow the inside to dry.

3) A supplementary thing is to run an empty machine wash cycle once a month or so using bleach (chlorine) in the recommended dose for your machine. Use highest temp to maximize effect.

There is also some work that can be done with a rag, mechanically cleaning out the gasket and all accessible parts in the detergent compartment etc, however this may have quite limited effect. Worth trying nevertheless.

Good luck!

Other than that you c

SOURCE: my washing machine has a bad smell and wont work

IMPORTANT: Read thoroughly. DO NOT add detergent or other laundry products to this cycle.
1. Remove all items from the washer.
2. Open the dispenser drawer and 2/3 cup (160 mL) of liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment. DO NOT use more than 2/3 cup (160mL) of bleach per cycle as this will lead to product damage.
3. Close the washer door and dispenser drawer.
4. Select the Clean Washer cycle or a full wash cotton 104 F wash (40 C). DO NOT use any higher temperature as this will cause unnecessary fumes
5. Press Start and allow cycle to complete.
6. If the bad odour persists, repeat the procedure 1 or 2 more times. This may be necessary if this is the first time you have run this cycle.
7. After the cycle is complete, leave the door open slightly to allow ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
8. Repeat the cleaning procedure monthly.
To maintain the washer freshness:
1. Use only HE High Efficiency detergent.
2. Leave the door open after each cycle to for better ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
3. Use warm / hot water in your machine unless the fabric you are washing requires cold.
4. Use the correct amount of fabric softener.
5. If your laundry room is damp, use a dehumidifier.
6. Clean the door seal of visible residue.

Smelly water with water softener

Your local home depot sells a product called AFFRESH that is made for front loaders to clean mold as well as stagnant water smells from washing machines. I have also hear other techs suggest vinegar and water but personally I would much rather have the unit smelling nice and flowery smell instead of a vinegary smell. Also it is important to note your drain line should be at least 6" higher then the top of your washer if it were less then the water that is supposed to leave the machine goes back inside the machine thus giveing some a stagnant water smell or like bad eggs.If you have any further questions message me back
Thank you

My Whirlpool Estate Top Load washing machine is less than a year old. The last few months it has begun to smell really bad between washings. I leave the lid up but that doesn't help. The clothes don't...

Chances are there is mold forming in the outer tub, put two cups of bleach in the tub, set the water level at highest setting and run it in heavy wash mode. Do not add any laundry, that should help kill the mold that is causing the smell.

WF740 Hotpoint washing machine with bad smell from drum. Tried 95 degree wash but still smells. Door seal slightly blackened but I think smell is from drum too. Any help?

Wash it out with a strong solution of washing soda placed into the drum before you fill the machine

Ps

Run the machine empty through a full hot cycle then run the soda one

The first will soften the deposits and the second should help kill the bacteria that is causing the smell.

Reducing the load so that there is more agitation helps as well

Bad Smell

this is caused by a build up of old detergent and limescale.there are some industrial strength descalers around.wpro descaler is one.add the sachet to the drum with no wash load.pour in a kettle of hot water(not boiling)and leave for thirty minutes.then put washing machine on a 60 degree cycle and allow to run right through.you will need to repeat approximately every three months
