Belkin dual band wi-fi usb adapter n600db prompting "DEVICE DRIVER SOFTWARE WAS NOT SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED" after a basic, seemingly simple installation process. I have removed & reinstalled with same prompt. We are trying to set up my boyfriend's computer in the office next to the front bedroom where my Qwest Q1000 wireless router is located. Maybe we are wrong in assuming this simple gadget would install on his desktop & make it wireless as well. Perhaps we are missing vital parts. Any advice?

do you have a Wireless Router + Broadband modem? This is like a base station to which your remote wireless node communicates (to get connected to your home network and internet. something like this http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=187337 for an ADSL connection. If you are on cable, you can either get a Router similar to the one above (but for cable) http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1138056788757&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8875739789B01 or if your Cable modem has LAN ports you may just be able to use an "Access Point" to add Wireless capabilities. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1126536803676&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=0367639789B22

First of all you have a wireless "N" adaptor running on a router set for 802.11g. You need to have the same router as the adaptor, "N".

This device is well known for the high level of current draw that it requires in order to work. I would suggest that you remove all other unnecessary USB devices and try the device again. It is more than likely that your system will find the device.
The quickest way of ensuring continued usage, when you have numerous USB devices, is to purchased a powered USB hub and ensure that the Wireless adapter is connected to one of the powered USB ports on the hub.
Hope that helps.
