Turns out it was the Manual-off-Auto switch that was bad. My DVM showed a voltage drop across the switch. The controller wasn't getting enough power.
One good thing about it was it forced me to really study the schematics to understand how everything worked. I'm now in the process of designing my own esp32 based controller, with wifi connectivity, to replace the stock control board.
Do you have maintenance manual? When you buy the generator, it must have manual. If the manual do not say about it, you are better to contact your supplier, then you tell details with them. Because different situation, will use different solutions. If you need to purchase new diesel generator set infuture, maybe you can visit : wwww.dieselgeneratortech.com, they have focused on high quality generator for 40 years. Judy, Generac portable generator oil recommendations. Above 40°F, use SAE 30. Below 40°F and down to 10°F, use 10W-30. Below 10°F, use synthetic 5W-30. Oil should be changed after the first 8 hours of operation and every 200 hours of run time thereafter.

The "mag" is a magneto and it generates the high voltage pulse to fire the spark plug. The "coil" is about the same thing but it uses a set of points or an electronic ignition to control when the spark is delivered.
remove cylider head check the gasket the inlet and exhast valves also inspect the piston if you see no sign of damage remove the piston and check the piston rings
I am assuming the generator worked fine before the oil change. Now that you have done the oil change the genset does not start. These generators have a safety switch, which is basically an oil pressure switch that keeps the engine from running when there is not enough oil in the engine. Make sure that there is enough oil and if there is, look for a wire that runs along side of the engine to a round component. disconnect that wire and try starting. If it does not start then try to ground out the wire to the engine block. If this does not work, then there is other engine problems.
