I have a JBL MC19 radio and was using a JBL REM40gs remote. The battery died on my bike, but has since been charged. The radio came back fine (didn't even losed preset stations), but now the remote will not work (have replaced the battery twice). Is there some sort of code I have to enter to make the remote work?Thank you,

Assuming you are allowing it to charge fully then the battery is failing.

If you are positive that the charger is good, then the batteries have died a noble death and need replacement.



They are only good for so many recharge cycles before going to battery heaven.

Seems the battery has gone bad prematurely. Charging circuits have to be good since the unit works fine off the adapter plugged into the mains.

My solution was just to buy a new wired remote on ebay for $50. That way I had the same dimensions for the cutout on my center console. Essentially the remote is a remove and replace item. I bought one in chrome and just traded out my old cover and bezel which was a grey plastic.

Replace the battery, it doesn't have enough cold cranking amps to start the bike anymore.

You need to check the charging current and also the discharging of the battery in the IDLE mode.

Use a multimeter to check the charging current and also discharging rate when the engine is switched off.

The alternator and accessories must be checked.

sounds like you may have damaged the stator or another part of the ignition system when it shorted. the bike will only run while the battery has power as it is not being charged when the bike is running. when my stator went on the Harley it collapsed the battery and the bike just stopped, all the acid went over my primary cover and ruined the chrome, it was 1 week out of warranty at the time

sounds like a charging system. same thing happens with cars when the alternator goes kaput. so i would say check your charging system weather it be an alternator or generator.

Experience the same problem with my Zumo 550. Told by service advisor @ Radio World that this is a common problem. Unit needs to be charged on the DC charger occasionally. The motorcycle mount and car mounts, I was told, does not charge the battery on these units, but maintains a charged battery.
