How to instal

Hi,
You'll wanna check out: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WNR1000_SM_WW_23Jan09.pdf
Look for "installation"..
To help you set up your router and get on the Internet quickly, the Resource CD contains a Smart Wizard™ Installation Assistant. The Installation Assistant walks you through the steps required to connect your router, modem, and PC(s); configure your wireless settings; and enable wireless security for your network. When you have finished, you will be Internet ready!
You can set up your wireless router using one of two methods:
• Smart Wizard Setup: The Smart Wizard Installation Assistant setup is available on your Resource CD. See "Installing Your Router Using the Smart Wizard" on page 9 to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant.
- This is the easiest option. The wizard guides you through the setup process. It automates many of the steps and verifies that the steps have been successfully completed.
- Smart Wizard requires a PC running Microsoft Windows.
• Manual Setup: If you cannot or prefer not to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant, see "Manually Installing Your Router" on page 13. For example, if you are connecting to a Mac, are using a Linux operating system, or are technically knowledgeable, select this option. If you choose to use this option and install your router manually, for best results, install and set up your router in this order:
Failure to follow these guidelines can result in significant performance degradation or an inability to wirelessly connect to the Internet.
NETGEAR does not recommend or support adding a NETGEAR router behind another router, or replacing a gateway with a a NETGEAR router.
If you have a Macintosh or Linux system, you must use the manual installation method (see "Manually Installing Your Router" on page 13).Getting to Know Your Wireless Router 7
1. Install and connect your wireless router to your network (see "Connecting Your Wireless Router" on page 14).
2. Set up your wireless router for Internet access (see "Setting Up Your Router for Internet Access" on page 18).
3. Configure your wireless network and select wireless security settings to protect your wireless network (see "Configuring Your Wireless Network" on page 21)

Lost my setup cd for my D-Link Dir-601. where can I get the software?

Directly from D-link web site. You can use the wizard, but I have an checklist of must do items....

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

Help me to resolve a problem with my Router

To access the configuration page of the Dlink router, use a wired computer or directly connect your laptop to the router using an ethernet cable. Then open any internet browser and in the address bar type: 192.168.0.1.

Select Admin from the drop-down arrow and then enter your password. Leave the password blank by default. If it doesn't work, then you will need to reset the router.

At the back of the router there is a reset button, hold it down for 30 seconds.

Then try again to access the router. Reconfigure the router's internet connection, depending on your ISP. Under Setup>Internet page, click the Internet connection Setup Wizard button to automatically configure the router.

Then for the wireless settings, go to Setup>Wireless Settings page, then click on the Wireless Network Setup Wizard to configure the wireless settings.

Don't have Driver, so I can't hear anything

Here is a link to the Intel support page for their onboard audio. It contains a link to their audio wizard as well as a link to their download page. I would suggest running the audio wizard first to properly identify your hardware and the type of driver necessary.

If this doesn't resolve your issue please post under this thread so I can provide more assistance.
