Can I program a 10 dip switch remote to replace an 8 dip switch remote?

You should be able to, 8 dip switches gives you 256 addresses, the 10 dip switches gives 2048 addresses, just leave switches 9 and 10 in the off position and set the switched the same.

DIP Switches don't seem to matter

You need to completely power off (wall switch or breaker) when changing the dip switches. Not just power off from remote because it will keep previous setting. I learned it the hard way....

Dip switch setting for my fan

It does not matter what the dip setting is as long as they are the same on the remote and the receiver. If you do not know the setting you will have to remove the fan mounting cover and pull the receiver out. Open the receiver and see what the dip setting is. Then set the remote to the same setting.

No dip switch in Hunter 27157 remote control.

Those aren't transistors in the transmitter they are jumpers. Match the jumper settings with your dip switch settings in the receiver. You can move the jumpers in the transmitter using a small needle nose pliers. An open jumper in the transmitter equals an OFF setting on the dip switch in the receiver.

Good luck!
