The CG9 Users Manual suggests that once the USB cable is connected, a USB menu will pop up on the camera. This is where you can choose for the camera to be a USB Card Reader, allowing you to access your files, rather than it acting like a webcam for example. When acting as a USB card reader, no other drivers are supposed to be required.
You could also try removing the card and placing it in an external USB card reader.
Page 167 in the manual also describes how to get the camera to point your computer to a support website. It says that if the card is removed, and then the cable connected, and then the camera is turned on, a connection menu will popup and "Computer" should be selected, and then "Card Reader" should be selected. Since the card has been removed, an internally stored link is supposed to popup to direct you to the support website.
This is most likely that CG9 Support website.

I always recommend having a version of your users manual on your computer, because it is so much easier to search through the manual quickly to find what you are looking for.
You can find a digital version of the users manual for the Sanyo CG9 here, and you will also find the free software for downloading videos to your computer and watching them there.
Once your videos are on your computer, you can burn a data disc without any commercial software. Some DIVX or XVID dvd players will play these data disks and you can watch your movies like that. An .MP4 data DVD will hold much more video than a standard DVD video disk because it squeezes it much tighter. You can play your .mp4 videos through a PS3 using a data dvd or a thumbdrive.
If you want to convert your mp4 videos to a standard dvd that will play in any dvd player, you will need commercial conversion software such as ULead MovieFactory or Nero Vision. MovieFactory was included with some sanyo camcorders, but if you have lost your disk, they do not allow you to download it from their website.
I hope that helps!
SOURCE: dvd software for my Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG9
You can write a data dvd that will play on any DIVX or XVID dvd player that supports this format:
" ISOstandard MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AAC audio)."
Some Blue-Ray players play this format, like Sony's PS3. The PS3 will play these videos from a thumbdrive.
Some Sanyo camcorders ship with a disk containing commercial software to convert your .MP4 videos to standard dvd video, such as Ulead MovieFactory. If you have lost your disk, Sanyo will not allow you to download it from the website. I cannot recommend where to download commercial software, such as MovieFactory or Nero Vision.

i have exactly the same problem and would love to find a solution soon! please help.
SOURCE: I Need driver for my sanyo xacti VPC-HD1A
The problem is with Windows, not the lack of a driver. My XP machine suddenly stopped recognizing my HD1A. I can still connect to other USB drives. The work around - either reboot to Linux, which recognizes the HD1A as a USB drive, or put the SD card into a reader. If your SD card is larger than 2 Gb, you may have to buy a new card reader.
