Where do I get a digital tuner and how do I attach it?

There are many choices these days, but the digital tuner box would normally come from the company that supplies your cable signal. The digital tuner usually includes a PVR (personal video recorder). As long as you television is modern, connection will be via an HDMI Cable which comes with the box.

Can I connect a digital tuner into a old analog tuner using a digital converter box?

The Coax from the Antenna is analogue, so that is not going to work. It would have to be Coax to analogue tuner, and to digital if it has a digital out, or if the digital box has an analogue in.

Hello, I was wondering what board is responsible for the function of switching channels.

Depending largely on the age of the TV, the location of the TV tuner varies. An older analog TV tapping a digital signal does so with an external DTV converter box. For cable and satellite subscribers, there is a a set top box. Most TVs purchased after March 2007 have built-in digital tuners. Look on the front and back of the TV for a marking that indicates a digital tuner. It may say ATSC, DTV, HDTV, Digital Ready, HD Ready, Digital Tuner, Digital Receiver, Digital Tuner Built-in or Integrated Digital Tuner. Any of these is an indication that the TV has a built-in digital tuner. You may have to go to the manufacturer's site to determine such specifications. If you are having a problem with a tv switching channels, remedies may be rather specific and you might try googling for a specific model while including the problem in a simple phrase.

Where can I buy a digital tv tuner to replace the analog tuner in a DVDRHD04

Generally recording machines fitted with an analogue tuner can only continue to be used to record digital tv by using a digital set-top box.
It would not be practical or economic to remove the internal analogue tuner and replace it with a digital tuner unless the person is a highly skilled and experienced repairer.

Digital set-top boxes are available from all sorts of outlets at all sorts of prices. Many surplus boxes can be found at boot sales, garage or yard sales or charity shops at very low prices.

Most boxes have the minimum of connections and often offer only a scart output but some of the older, more expensive and usually better quality boxes also contained a UHF tuner in a similar way to the old vhs recorders so even older tv sets could be used with digital even though no scart input was fitted.

How do I hook up my digital cable to my ilo flat screen TV with out a box

It won't work because the tuner from your ilo TV will not be able to decode the digital signal from the cable company even if your TV has a digital tuner. The digital tuner on your TV will only decode over the air signals.
You will still need the digital cable box from the cable company.

I would like to know if the Hitachi 51UWX20B television can be connected to the internet.

Your Hitachi 51UWX20B is an HDTV-Ready TV. No Digital Tuner. HDTV-Ready means that your TV set is capable of displaying analog and high-definition digital pictures, but without a digital tuner, it cannot receive the digital signal. An HDTV-Ready requires an external high-definition TV receiver (digital tuner) in order to receive HDTV signals. These external receivers can be called an HDTV Tuner, set-top-box, decoder or DTV Converter Box . So you will be required to purchase a converter box to receive over the air programming from an external antenna.

Built in tuner not working since digital transition

I do not know if you will get this message but if you do. Here goes. The protron PLTV3250 does indeed have a digital tuner that can be used with an over the air antenna. You need to push "source" on the remote until DTV is selected. With this selected and your coaxial cable from your antenna hooked up to the digital connector (not analog) on the back of this tv you can then press Menu and you will see a totally different looking menu that you are probably not used to seeing and then from there you can do an auto scan for the digital channels and it works great. I have rabbit ears hooked up to this Protron PLTV3250 and this has a beautiful picture. Far better than the picture I get from just the standard digital Directv receiver. You do not need a seperate digital tuner box to use with this TV. It does indeed have an ATSC digital tuner and it works great. You probably are selecting Source "TV" in the menu and that is not what you select for this TV to use the Digital Tuner. You need to select DTV from the source menu. Good luck and please let me know if you already knew this or if this helped you. Thanks, Tom

Digital ready?

Deacon J,
You will need a digital converter box OR high definition tuner for the transition. What's the difference? A converter box will only output a standard definition signal, either on channel 3 or by composite or S video cables. A high definition tuner will allow you to watch the new digital broadcasts in hi-def, assuming they are transmitted in hi definition. The converter boxes are the cheaper option and you can get a coupon from the government for a $40 rebate on the box, but I would opt for the hi-def tuner fo the better picture quality.CNET has a good write up on the transition here:
http://www.cnet.com/1990-7874_1-5108580-3.html
I did some looking and about the cheapest hi-def tuner I could find was $150, which is 3 times what a converter box would cost. I would expect the cost to fall on the tuners over time. Perhaps a converter box may be a good solution until the prices fall, if they do. The problem is that not many companies are making the tuners, as most TV's already have a hi-def tuner built in, so there isn't a big market for the add-on tuners. I hope this answers your questions.
