SOURCE: Kenmore 80 Series washer won't agitate/spin

Check out the video at the link that I'm attaching and see if it leads you in the right direction toward changing the lid switch. The switch should be checked for loose/corroded electrical connections and checked for continuity using a multimeter or ohmmeter. A lack of continuity means a bad switch. If bad it will have to be replaced, Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helps. Best wishes.

SOURCE: My kenmore washer 80 series model 110.23832100

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.23832100

The Kenmore / Whirlpool top load uses a reversing motor to initiate the pump for draining and the transmission to spin.

If you cannot hear the motor trying to turn the pump, (but the washer will agitate) the problem points to the Timer, or the Lid Switch.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

Following is an illustrated guide for how to access the console.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=5f1af8349a77f9dc5632b02160e0d6c6

This is the Whirlpool PDF on installation and maintenance of direct drive washers. See the section on how to bypass the lid switch and on the transmission.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

If the washer will drain but not spin the problem points to the Neutral Drain Assembly in the transmission.

The Whirlpool PDF has a very good explanation of how the assembly works.

Ours had the same problem, no draining or spinning unless the washer was stopped and restarted.

We replaced the neutral Drain Assembly for about $15 vs. $170 for a transmission.

If the Lid Switch is OK, please re-post a request for how to replace the neutral assembly.

Kenmore 80 Series Model 110-25862 that won't start wash cycle

Check your lid switch. This is the most common cause of the problem you are experiencing. Symptoms may include, filling and stopping on the intial fill cycle, a wash tub that will not drain, and stopping right after the wash cycle and not advancing to rinse or spin cycles.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because It does not have a lid strike and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator by bending it slightly.

A replacement lid switch (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

This is a very simple and inexpensive repair that you can do without the assistance of a repairman. The average price is about $20 - $30 if you perform the repair yourself. Prices differ between sites so shop and compare. The part number for a replacement for your washer is 3949238.

NOTE: You DO NOT need to drain the washer to replace the lid switch. Once a defective switch is replaced, the washer will drain.

If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this information is helpful.

Kenmore 80 series top load washer will not drain and go to rinse

Check your lid switch. If the washer fills and agitates, but stops at the rinse cycle, or if the washer fills then stops, this is a common symptom of a lid switch malfunction. The following link explains how to access and/or replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If the switch is not activated by a lid strike, it will activated by a hinge actuator located next to either the left or right lid hinge. You will need to remove the operator console in order to access this type of switch.

NOTE: On this type of lid switch the lid hinge has a small rod that is used as an acutator to toggle the switch. In many cases, you can adjust the rod by bending it if the switch is not making contact.

If you determine the switch to be defective, a replacement can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all of them for the best price.

This is a very simple repair, that usually costs about $25 to $35 to repair yourself. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore 80 series washer, replaced lid switch already, will fill, wash (agitate) but stops before draining and spinning and will not run. Is the timer the next step for replacement? Model: 110.29852991

First check the continuity of the wires in the lid switch and the switch itself. Make a jumper wire to attach to the lid switch connector on the washer cabinet and set it to spin. If still no spin, replace the timer.

A washer that fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. depends some modles have 2 clips under the front left and right you stick your putty knife in there and pull the console up, also there could be end caps get a screw driver and pop them off then there will be 2 screws remove them. Then some models have 2 screws directly behing the consol remove them pull consol forward and up.
