SOURCE: My RCA TH1611 mp3 player freezes upon booting.
Sometimes the firmware or player files are garbaged and the player
looks like it starts halfway then freezes. If this is your problem and
you're sure the battery's fine (and in the right way) then you can try
to reload the flash on the player and as a last resort reformat the
file area as well.
Go the RCA support website and download the latest flash for
the th1611 and run the program. You may be lucky off the bat, but if
the first attempt fails review the troubleshooting procedures that will
tell you to hold the play button while plugging the device into the usb
port. If, after the program flash, the device still fails to start,
you'll have to erase the file area to un freeze the device.
I
had a weak battery that that I pulled out while the device was starting
and it seemed to corrupt the player. Thisprocedure worked for me.
FYI, the flash program works on XP 32bit, but I don't know if it will work with Vista
