The ice maker on our LG french door refrigerator has stopped working. The water fill lever does not seem to move up or down like it used to. If you put a glass in the slot and try to get ice, the motor still works. There is just no ice in the maker or the bucket. Does not seem to be a water line problem because we can still get water from the door. Any ideas? Thermostat?
The LG part number for this particular ice maker is AEQ36756901.
Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi there,
Clean the condensing coils. They're underneath or in the back of the fridge. You may need to buy a special brush that looks like a baby bottle brush, but much longer. just try this it will work.
good Luck!!
Thanks
Hi...Most refridgerators with ice and water have a dual valve...one valve for the ice maker one for the water..this could be one of three problems. 1st one and most common is a blockage in the water line that comes into the ice maker..usually ice blockage at the point where the water enters the ice tray. 2nd could be a faulty inlet valve located normally rear bottom left side..you will see where the water line goes in. 3rd can be the ice maker itself having a stripped contact...if you find no blockage in the line keep an eye on the ice maker discharge arm (looks like teeth that push ice out try) if the discharge arm is still revolving like it is still pushing ice out over a period of a few hours the that will indicate the valve is bad...replace it, if you see no movement over a period of a few hours replace the ice maker. Hope this helps...If you have any other questions or concerns please don't hesitate to comment again. good luck
yes the rest of the unit would work fine, your jusy not getting any water to the ice maker for what ever reason...the ice maker controls when the vale opens and how long...the freezer just freezes it when it is in the freezer...have been doing this for 20 years so take my word, it's one of the 3 problems i have previously stated.
Thanks

Thanks very much for your analysis. Does it matter that the rest of the unit (refrigerator and freezer) continues to operate normally? I am just trying to understand how dirty coils would affect the icemaker but not the rest of the unit. Many thanks!
